Four years ago, Eric answered your questions about what to do with 3-year-old Japanese Black Pines. 🌲 In this clip, he thins the buds on a young pine, keeping the small ones and removing about half, so he can create a smaller pattern of growth now and have more styling options later once the trunk gets bigger. Happy ! 🍂 Acorns are ripening on this oak, and we’re not sure what we’ve got yet. It could be a small leaf canyon live oak or some kind of hybrid. We’re going to germinate the acorns and see what we get! 🌱

Exposed root Japanese Black Pines don’t come around often. 🌲 We have one left from our October release, with the dramatic surface roots that make this style so sought after. Four years ago, Eric spotted a tiny threat on the Bonsai Society of San Francisco’s logo tree: minute cypress scale. 🔍 In this fall cleanup, he shows how to recognize it and how to treat it, a common problem in our area.
