The Schnitzer Center is taking shape on the Catlin Gabel campus, with all 16 long-span glulam beams now installed. Spanning 112 feet, the pitched beams, milled in Eugene from Yakama Nation forest timber, sweep over the 800-seat gymnasium to create an expansive indoor court and a memorable experience for student-athletes and spectators. Additional mass timber features, including exposed dowel-laminated timber in the Commons and lobby and a mass plywood panel social stair, further strengthen the center's focus on connection and wellness.

Opening in fall 2027, the Schnitzer Center will feature spaces for dining, athletics, wellness and community events, all woven into the steep, wooded terrain at the entrance to campus.

A big moment for Central Washington University (CWU)!

The doors are officially open at the new North Academic Commons, which CWU President Jim Wohlpart called "one of the most spectacular buildings on any campus in the state of Washington."

The grand opening brought together CWU leadership, students, faculty, representatives from the Yakama Nation and other Tribes, elected officials, community leaders and our project team for a ribbon cutting and a first look inside the new building.

Opsis designed the North Academic Commons to foster connection and collaboration, creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary learning while redefining the gateway to campus. The project features active learning classrooms, a TED Talk-style lecture hall, a mock courtroom, student-centered gathering spaces and a soaring mass timber atrium filled with natural light. It also advances CWU’s sustainability goals through a groundbreaking geothermal system, rooftop solar and a path toward LEED Gold certification.

Congratulations to CWU, our partner and everyone who helped bring this vision to life. We're proud to celebrate the grand opening of a place designed to support the next generation of learners, leaders and changemakers.

The former attic of Fairbanks Hall sat unused for decades. Today, it serves as the Center for Material Cultures Research in Archaeology, Art and Indigenous Studies.

Following the renovation of Fairbanks Hall's first three floors, our team transformed the former attic into a space that supports faculty research, hands-on learning and opportunities for students to work directly with collections and emerging technologies.

The project preserves the character of the historic building while creating modern teaching and learning environments, collection displays and places to showcase student work. Together, the four floors of Fairbanks Hall form a home for arts education, research and discovery at Oregon State University.

The new Health Sciences & Children's Learning Center expands COCC's Madras campus, creating space for both future health care professionals and young learners to thrive.

The expansion connects health care training, early childhood education and child care services across two floors. The facility supports a range of teaching and learning environments, from nursing labs and hybrid classrooms to spaces where future early childhood educators gain hands-on experience alongside The Children's Learning Center, a nonprofit organization serving Madras families.

By bringing health sciences education and early childhood learning together under one roof, the project addresses the region's demand for hands-on health careers education, workforce training and child care services.
