A new chapter is beginning for Southfield Public Schools!

We are honored to serve as the architectural and engineering partner for this milestone project, the district’s first new school in 60 years. As demolition begins, it’s rewarding to see the vision and planning take shape as we move into the next phase of bringing this new school to life.

Meet the Team | Sara Timberlake Project Designer, Ferndale Office

✨What I love most about my work:
It's a project type that, by design, is future-forward. You are designing a school that both plays a role in shaping the future thinkers and culture-shapers, while also designing for whatever future use or learning styles the school may need 10, 20, 50 years down the line.

💡One thing people don’t realize about my job:
When you design schools, you aren't only designing for students - you are designing for the teachers, the staff, and the community members that use and are impacted by the building.

🎉Fun Facts:
• Professional: I spent a year of my professional life teaching! I was a Michigan Mellon Fellow through the University of Michigan where I conducted research on the architecture of the black church, while teaching an architecture studio for DPSCD (Michigan Architecture Prep Program).
• Personal: I love dancing - I'm currently on a ladies’ salsa performance team, and training for future performances later in the year.

📍Favorite Michigan spot: Detroit - what up doe!? There's no city in this state - nor in the country - like Detroit.
