We’ve seen the posts. Everyone’s talking about spending their “Pinterest money” on dirt work and driveways.
We get it! You want the pretty tile, not more dirt.
If site costs are a concern, here are three things worth considering early:
1. Find the right piece of land.
Some properties need far less clearing, fill, and grading than others. The right lot can save a significant amount of money before construction even starts.
2. Reconsider the placement of the home.
Is there a flatter, more buildable spot on the property that would reduce the need for costly fill or retaining walls?
3. Flip the garage.
Sometimes simply reversing the garage side of the plan improves access and shortens the driveway enough to meaningfully lower costs.
A little planning upfront helps keep more of the budget where most people want it, on the finishes and details they’ll actually see and use every day.
