I’ve raced Ironman NC 70.3 before, but Saturday I got to experience it from the other side. And WOW. What a perspective. ❤️

I volunteered at Ironman 70.3 North Carolina here in Wilmington, and I walked away with an even greater appreciation for what goes into getting athletes safely to that finish line.

One of my jobs was bike escorting the male leader during the run. I got to ride behind him and watch him go on to win the entire race. What a cool experience!

I also supported athletes on the run course, transporting those who were injured or unable to continue back to the finish area.

And the conditions? Brutal.

A cold front brought heavy rain, choppy water, headwinds with gusts up to 40 mph, and temperatures that dropped 20–30 degrees throughout the day.

Imagine swimming in rough water, fighting those headwinds and rain on your bike for 56 miles, and then facing a half-marathon run in the cold and rain.

I was blown away by the determination of the athletes who kept pushing through. And I was reminded that sometimes, the strength it takes to stop is just as real as the strength it takes to keep going. The athletes who didn’t make the run cutoff did NOT want to get into the van. I reminded them what rockstars they were for even making it to the run course. I heard every single DNF throughout the day, and it was more than we’ve ever seen in this race.

Having raced these distances myself, I know what athletes put into preparing for race day. But seeing the other side showed me just how many people work behind the scenes to support them and keep them safe.

To every athlete, volunteer, medical professional, and support crew member who showed up Saturday: THANK YOU.

It takes a village to get to that finish line. And sometimes, the most memorable part of the race isn’t the finish itself. It’s everything you witness along the way.

If I were investing in just 3 things to organize my kitchen, these would be it. 👇

1️⃣ Pantry bins to group like items and make everything easier to find.

2️⃣ Drawer dividers to give utensils and kitchen tools a home.

3️⃣ Spice organizers to keep spices visible and easy to reach, whether that’s on a tiered rack or in a drawer.
