Some of the boxes currently available in my store (first link in profile). I know many of you are more interested in learning to make things yourselves than buying completed work. Honestly, I’m the same. I guess that’s how I ended up doing for a living. But if you know someone that might like my work, please share it with them. Thanks!

Three boxes here. Same dimensions and construction. They differ in paint colors, fabric, pull material, and lid species. I think that makes a big difference, but in the past some folks have disagreed with me. What say you? Are these boxes unique enough to be considered, well, different from one another? Also, I have some of the last box available. First link in profile.

In the back of my head, I know that eventually I need to catalogue every tool I own and mark down an approximate value for each one, both for insurance purposes, but also so that they are easier to sell off after I’m gone (assuming neither of my kids wants them). Ugh. That’s gonna be a lot of work. I have an absurd collection of hand tools, power tools, machinery that I’ve acquired over the last 28 years or so. I use the vast majority routinely, thankfully.

I’ve made many boxes in the last 18+ years. This is some of them. I think I’ve done some good work. Hopefully, I’ll manage to survive the current economy and make many, many more in the next 18+ years. But even if I don’t, I still make boxes and furniture (just for myself instead of others).

For a very long time I rarely used figured woods because I thought they were overused. But I’ve grown to like them. They dress up my otherwise understated designs. I have 4 of this box available through the first link in my profile.

This is the first time I’ve used the same color for the paint on the box, lid edge, and the fabric liner. I like it. All three blues pair well with the orangish brown of the figured anigre lid. I also like how the pale color of the basswood frames everything. I have four of this box available. First link in profile.

I have another box available. This style has been quite popular recently, so I’ve made some more. This one has figured anigre veneer for the lid. It’s really nice! The basswood body is painted with a blue milk paint I mixed myself, and the lid edge is a darker blue. Pull is cocobolo. Blue fabric lines the interior. Link in profile.

One of my favorite things about wood is its natural chatoyance. When the light hits it just right, it seems to glow from within. I’m excited for next week, because I just ordered 4 different types of figured woods (which have the most stunning chatoyance) to use in new boxes. In the meantime, checkout what’s available in my store (first link in profile). Have a great weekend!

One of the reasons my wife and I get along so well is that we are both greatly appreciate quality pens, pencils, and paper. I’ve started to work on some@boxes designed to hold stationary. Should be fun to make them. This particular box is available (first link in profile). Also, I love the dog-shaped paper clips she introduced me to. They look a little like my pup Jo Jo, whose tail stands and curls like the paper clip dog’s.
