"Should I rekey or replace my locks?" 🔑 We get this all the time — here's the plain-English answer.

🔧 REKEY — we change the pins inside your existing lock so the old key stops working and a new one works. The lock stays on the door. Cheaper, faster, mostly labor.

🚪 REPLACE — we swap the whole lock for a new one. Costs more (new hardware + labor), but it's the move when a lock is worn, broken, or you want an upgrade.

A new key for a 2025 Nissan Sentra should take about 20 minutes. This one took over an hour. 🔑

When I plugged in to program the key — nothing. No connection on a car where it should've been instant.

Turned out the car had an aftermarket GPS tracker wired right into the OBD port (the port we plug into to program keys). It had taken the port's spot, and the real factory port was tucked up under the dash out of sight. Once I found it, the key programmed perfectly.

That's the reality of modern car keys: GPS trackers, remote starts, insurance dongles, secure dealer software — lots of ways for a "simple" job to get interesting. The value of a pro isn't the easy days. It's the days a car throws a curveball, and you work the problem instead of forcing it or giving up.
