THE RIPTIDE | FALL FISHING KNOW-HOW

Where Are the Fish? Understanding Fall Water Temperatures
Fall is one of the best times to be on the lake! The summer crowds are thinning out, the air is getting crisp, and changing water temperatures can create some excellent fishing opportunities. But as the seasons change, so do the fish!

Here's what every fall lake angler should know:

Cooling Surface Water
As temperatures drop, the upper layers of the lake begin to cool. Fish that spent the summer in deeper, cooler water may become more active in shallower areas as temperatures move into their preferred range.

The Fall Turnover
In many deeper lakes, cooling surface water eventually mixes with deeper water. This process is called fall turnover.
During turnover, fish can become scattered, and fishing may be unpredictable for a while. Once conditions stabilize, fishing can improve.

Follow the Baitfish
As water temperatures change, baitfish may move into different areas of the lake. Predator fish often follow their food!
Look for activity around points, drop-offs, creek mouths, and areas where baitfish are gathering.

Don't Overlook the Afternoon Bite!
Unlike summer, when early mornings and evenings are often productive, fall fishing can improve as the day warms up.
A little afternoon sunshine may encourage fish to become more active, especially in shallow areas.

Adjust Your Fishing Depth
Don't assume the fish are still holding in their summer locations. Experiment with different depths and pay attention to your fish finder.
Remember, every lake is different, and fish species respond differently to changing temperatures.

🌊 RIPTIDE TIP:
In the fall, follow the temperature, find the baitfish, and be willing to change your fishing depth!

Fall fishing fans, what's your favorite lake to fish this time of year?

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Before Klamath Boats became the name we know today, there was Trailorboat!

Check out this vintage advertisement from 1954–1955! Even back then, the focus was on quality craftsmanship, durability, and building aluminum boats made for years of enjoyment.

The boats may have changed over the decades, but the commitment to building tough, dependable boats remains.

Since 1947, boat building has been our tradition!

Who remembers these early aluminum boats? We'd love to hear your stories!

Some things were built to last. Long before today's electronics, accessories and modern conveniences, Klamath Boats were already putting people on the water.
Fishing trips. Family days. Early mornings. Long summers. And plenty of stories along the way.

The boats may have changed over the years, but the idea behind them hasn't:
Build a lightweight aluminum boat that's simple, dependable and ready to be used.

We've been doing just that since 1947.

Why does lightweight matter?

Because sometimes you don't need more boat. You need the right boat.
Klamath Boats have built their reputation around lightweight aluminum boats designed to be practical, capable and easy to use.

A lighter boat can mean easier towing, easier launching and retrieving, and less horsepower needed to get you where you're going.

Whether you're heading out for an early morning of fishing, exploring a favorite lake or just spending the day on the water, sometimes simple is better.

LIGHTER. WELDED. BETTER.
What do you like most about your Klamath?

It's been a little quiet around here... but Klamath Boats has been anything but.

Since 1947, Klamath has been building boats around a pretty simple idea: Keep them light. Build them tough. Make them for people who actually use them.

Nearly 80 years later, that hasn't changed.

There's a new chapter underway at Klamath Boats, and we're looking forward to taking you along for the ride, from the boats we're building today to the Klamaths that have been fishing, hunting and exploring for generations.

And we'd really like to hear from you.

Do you own a Klamath?

Drop a photo in the comments and tell us the year, model and where you use it. Older boats are especially welcome; we want to see how far back we can go!
