The goal was to create holiday gifts for clients in the industry that I have worked in for over twenty years: computers and technology. Get some wax, give it a good color to match the business cards, throw a wick in the jar; what could be difficult about that? It turns out the process is a lot more involved. It also turns out that it is a process that can be evaluated, investigated, researched, and quantified to yield something that is amazing yet simple. Candles fascinate us for their functional elegance as well as offer enjoyment touching our many senses. At their core is considerable science in their creation and enjoyment. It became more than just gifts for clients as friends and family became interested. Evidence mounted that I had a crafty hobby. “Check out this new scent.” “How do you like this color?” “Did you know that slow cooling this in this way using insulation materials from Home Depot gives a richer result?” Science hooked me, interest reeled me in, and the possibility of creating new things sealed the deal. I still say it’s a hobby… the Infusian name and formal label says otherwise as it has evolved. Candles reach deep in our history as a civilization. Our sense of smell has helped keep humans alive, and now it lets us experience the world and recall it through vast connections in our memory. Science wins the day again in how we interpret the expression of a candle, the flame, the scent, and how it fits into our modern environment with very primal notes. That is the ultimate mission of Infusian: to fit into your environment allowing you to interpret its expression and reveal an experience fresh or remembered. That’s our story: a preconceived notion, a realization of science, and a deeper interest leading to experience. Andrew Soncha
