Harrison Architects Lyrical Sustainable Design since 1992, Passivhaus since 2009. We are intrigued by backyard cottages, co-housing, townhouses and multi-family projects.

With 20+ years of experience in green architecture, and Passive House training, we are uniquely qualified to help you create lasting, beautiful deep green, energy intelligent buildings. Our projects range from modest kitchen renovations to high-end new homes and cabins, placing an equal emphasis on style, function and poetics, woven together with the thread of ecological design, and mindful of long term cost. We can bring the Passivhaus approach to any of these building types, as either prime architect or consultant.

I'm pleased to announce I'll be one of ten presenting innovative green buildings at this year's Northwest Green Building Slam! I'll be showing the Firewise Colorado Passive House, a stock Passive House built as part of the Marshall Fire rebuilding effort. All of this year's projects are fantastic. It's amazing to see how far we've come in the 30+ years since the founding of the Guild. Get your tickets now! (The event does sell out.)

Lloyd Alter nails it. If you're GenX or older and building a place to live of any kind, it absolutely should be a Passivhaus. If you're a Millennial or younger it makes incredible sense too, but banding together with friends to build a HB 1110-allowed Passivhaus quad or sixplex may be more attractive and achievable. (That's what I want!)

Older people in particular have to plan for thermal as well as financial security.

There’s going to be a good educational session tomorrow night (Wednesday, July 22) titled Reducing Wildfire Risk, put on by the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild. I’ll be talking about my FIrewise Colorado Passive House on what you can do during design, Cat Robinson of Eastside Fire and Rescue will cover measures around existing homes, and David Forte from the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commisioner will talk about insurance implications. I believe AIA CE credits are available.

Wildfires are becoming more frequent, more intense, and more unpredictable across the Pacific Northwest — including on the west side of the Cascades, where major fires were once rare. Recent events such as the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles highlight that even dense urban neighborhoods are not immu...

In music technology these days, the big trend is the reintroduction of k***s and buttons to control the sound or mix. Features that every single mixing board or effect pedal used to have. On the other hand, we’re still in the gee-whiz phase of the Smart Home. I love the control of my Philips Hue system, but I’m looking forward to the reintroduction of k***s and buttons…. What do you think?

You shouldn’t need a tech tour and app to turn the lights on.

Knowing climate risks when you’re looking for land to build on, or a house to buy, is a good thing. Zillow thinks not.

Knowing climate risks when you’re looking for land to build on, or a house to buy, is a good thing. Zillow thinks not.

Efforts to suppress disclosure of grave climate risks in brittle areas cheat buyers and sabotage communities.
