A runner wide enough to really walk on. 🧶

Most runners are 2½ to 3 feet wide. This one is 4'4" × 12'10", which makes it a good fit for a wide hallway, an entry, or the space beside a long bed or table.

It's 120 to 130 years old, woven in Iran's Azerbaijan region in the northwest. The navy field is filled with rows of big boteh motifs, the teardrop shape the West calls paisley, in red, orange and cream, inside a warm red-orange border. At about 144 knots per square inch the drawing is chunky and graphic, the way village rugs are meant to be.

Washed and in like-new condition for its age.

No medallion, no center, no wrong way to place your furniture. 🧶

This signed Tabriz, from the Khoshnevis workshop and part of our Vault collection, uses an all-over floral layout: swirling vines, leaves and rosettes run continuously across a warm cream field, so a sofa or table can sit anywhere without covering the "main" design. A deep navy border frames it all.

It was hand-knotted 60 to 70 years ago at about 324 knots per square inch, over roughly 1,319 days. The pile is thick and high, and it's washed and in like-new condition.

At 11'5" × 14'5", it's a big, easy rug for a living room or a large dining room.

They call Bijar the iron rug of Persia. This one is iron with fine detail. 🧶

Bijar weavers pack each row down hard, which is why their rugs are famously dense, heavy and durable. This 8'5" × 11'2" Bijar keeps all of that and adds fine knotting on top: about 400 knots per square inch.

The design repeats in neat rows across the field, red, cream and green motifs lined up like a tiled floor, inside a warm brown border. It's new, with a thick high pile, and it's the kind of rug you can put in a busy room and stop worrying about.

This Mashad carries a name that matters in Persian weaving: Astan Quds. 🧶

The Astan Quds Razavi workshop in Mashad is tied to one of Iran's holiest sites, the shrine of Imam Reza, and this rug carries its signature. It's 10'9" × 16': an ivory field with a grand red and navy medallion at the center, corner pieces that echo it, and wide red borders full of flowing florals.

It's new, tied at about 324 knots per square inch over roughly 1,371 days, with a thick, high pile that's soft underfoot and made for everyday life in a living or dining room.

Some rugs are made for rooms. This one was made for halls. 🧶

At 12'6" × 19'6", this Kashan was woven for grand interiors: a red and blue medallion floating on an open ivory field, floral sprays and vines mirrored corner to corner, and a deep red border holding it all together.

The ivory ground is what makes it special. It's unusual for a Kashan this densely drawn, and it keeps all that detail feeling light and airy instead of heavy.

It was hand-knotted 80 to 100 years ago, over nearly 1,700 days of work, and it's been washed and is in like-new condition.

Sixteen and a half feet of hallway, covered. 🧶

This Mehraban runner is 3'3" × 16'7" and 100 to 120 years old. Mehraban is a weaving village in the Heriz region of northwest Iran, and you can see the family resemblance: bold, geometric medallions in coral, red and orange, repeated down a deep navy field.

A runner this long that has made it through a century in one piece is a rare find. This one has been washed and is in like-new condition, with a medium pile that's comfortable underfoot.

Made for a long hallway or a gallery-style corridor that needs some color.

Look closely: there are birds hiding in this garden. 🐦

This Isfahan skips the usual central medallion. Instead, the whole ivory field is a flowering garden, with birds perched among the branches and blossoms in red, rose, blue, green and soft gold. The border carries the same theme.

It's woven in silk and wool on a silk foundation at about 576 knots per square inch, fine enough that the branches and feathers read like brushwork. It was woven 50 to 60 years ago and is in like-new condition.

At 5'2" × 7'8", it works on the floor of a quiet room, or on a wall, where pieces this fine are often shown.

Earlier this month we compared two rugs of almost the same size: one $9,500, one $39,500. This is the $39,500 one. 🧶

Here's where the difference goes. It's a 13' × 16'11" Tabriz with a silk-and-wool pile on a pure silk foundation, tied at about 529 knots per square inch. That works out to nearly 17 million hand-tied knots.

The design is an all-over field of fine scrolling vines and small blossoms on a soft ivory ground, framed by a rose border, with touches of blue, green and gold. It's signed, too: watch for the woven signature in the border about halfway through the video.

Light, quiet and incredibly fine. A rug for a large living or dining room that shouldn't feel heavy.

This is what a soft rug looks like. 🧡

Oushak designs come from Uşak in western Turkey, and they're known for big, open patterns and gentle color. This one is woven in that tradition in Afghanistan/Pakistan: a warm apricot field with oversized ivory blossoms, framed by a wide ivory border.

The wool is hand-spun and colored with vegetable dyes, so the tones shift gently across the field instead of looking flat. At about 156 knots per square inch, the drawing is loose and relaxed on purpose. It calms a room down rather than taking it over.

At 10'8" × 15', it's sized for a big living room or an open-plan space.

Minimalism isn't about empty rooms. It's about choosing fewer things and making each one count. 🤍

If your home is clean-lined and calm, three rug styles fit especially well:

• Oushak: big, airy patterns in sun-washed pastels. Relaxed and organic.
• Tabriz in a tone-on-tone palette: fine, precise drawing with silk accents. Quiet luxury you feel more than see.
• Nain: an ivory ground with cool blues and greys, made for a monochrome room.

The right rug doesn't compete with a minimal space. It grounds it.
