That marble mosaic behind the bar? It started as a stack of sheets on a work bench in the garage — and seeing it finally go up on the wall never gets old. Days like this are my favorite part of the job: tile spacers everywhere, sills held up with jacks, and a space slowly turning into exactly what we drew on paper. There’s a journey behind every design — and this one is almost at the finish line.

The 2027 Colors of the Year are out — and once again Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams have picked the same color family. Benjamin Moore’s Webster
Green HC-130? I’m in love — it’s a classic green with real personality, the kind that feels like it’s always belonged in the room. Sherwin’s Celery SW 6421, this was a miss for me, is too bright and just feels off — truly, I can’t picture my clients choosing it for their homes.

It’s late, the house is finally quiet — and I’m still scrolling through my slab yard photos. I carried one dark glossy tile down every aisle, because a slab can look completely different the second you hold something real up against it. Same tile, different stones, totally different moods.

Which pairing would you pick — calm and soft, or wild and full of movement?

This is the part of design nobody sees — floor planks laid out in a cardboard box on blue tape, a peacock wallpaper sample held up to the light, and a table covered in Stout swatches that all look perfect until you put them next to each other. New flooring, building the fabric story around that moody, gilded peacock — sage block prints, a soft jacobean floral, and one deep olive linen that might just tie it all together. There’s a journey behind every design, and most of it happens right here, in the messy middle, where the right piece only shows up once you’ve ruled out ten others.

Yes, I climbed into a tub — sneakers and all. You can read every spec sheet in the world, but you don’t know a tub until you’ve sat in it, and the Victoria + Albert Amiata is the one going into my Old English master bath. The showroom has it in this gorgeous dark exterior, but I’m ordering mine in glossy white — with dark walnut, polished nickel, and all that rich marble veining, the tub gets to be the quiet one in the room.

Forsyth Park is doing its thing in the golden hour light, and I just landed in Savannah for the Moen Designer Council meeting — kicking off tonight and running all day tomorrow. I always say there’s a journey behind every design, and this one starts with two days of sitting in a room full of designers who think about kitchens and baths as obsessively as I do, plus a wonderful conversations with the Moen team about what’s coming next. Rooted in design, indeed.

What’s the one fixture finish you’d want me to ask about while I’m here?

I promised you an honest verdict. Here it is.

Peel and stick wallpaper is a yes — with conditions. Easy to install, looks beautiful, and perfect for a DIYer or anyone who loves refreshing their space. But air bubbles near vents are real, it has a slight vinyl feel up close, and if this is your forever home — skip it. Invest in the real thing and hire a pro.

I tested this in my own dining room and yup I’ll keep it cause I love the pattern, but I’ll probably be doing real wallpaper in the next year to two and I’m ok with that.

Every home has a journey. This is what mine looks like when I close my eyes and dream one up from scratch.
Dark and grounded in the kitchen. Unexpected drama in the pantry. Bold color that earns its place in the dining room. Warmth and a fireplace in the bedroom. And then the bathroom — quiet, light, the exhale.

This is how I think about design. Not room by room — but as one complete feeling running through an entire home.

It’s one of the things I love about exploring spaces with AI design tools. Things come to life and it feels like you can step inside the picture.

Most people see the finished room. They don’t see the tile samples, the carpet pulls, the hours in SketchUp, or the measuring tape on a cold countertop slab.

This is what a Wednesday actually looks like — and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every decision I make in this job exists so that when you walk into your finished space, it feels completely right. That doesn’t happen by accident.

The best contractors I have ever worked with say it themselves — bring in a designer before you start a project. And they mean it, because they have seen what happens when finishes get chosen without one.

There is a journey behind every design. Most of the time that journey starts with a conversation that did not happen early enough — before the budget was spoken for and the decisions were rushed.

The finishes are not the last thing you choose. They are the thing you live with every single morning. If you cannot afford the ones you love right now, wait. Because that feeling when you finally walk into a space that is exactly right — it is worth it.
