This Halloween, whether you’re touring Salem, MA, or re-watching the cult classic Hocus Pocus, you might recognize this white house.

Known as “Allison’s House” in the film, the Ropes Mansion is a beautiful historic property, and its beech tree has just as much history. After years of Halloween-loving crowds, the beech began to struggle, but last year we were able to step in and help before its roots were completely strangled. Today, with consistent monitoring, the beech continues to thrive.

Thank you to the Peabody Essex Museum and our very own ISA Certified Arborist, Benjamin Dugdale, for sharing these photos and partnering with us to preserve history.

People in Hartford deserve more trees. We deserve cleaner air and water, and all the positive mental health benefits trees provide.

Trees for Hartford is planting hundreds of trees throughout the city-- where we need them the most. Hartford residents can get free trees planted in their yard. As the trees grow, so do the health benefits they bring.

Help us spread the word and sign up to get a free tree today!

Albino redwoods, often called “ghost trees,” grow pale white needles because they can’t make chlorophyll, which means they can’t photosynthesize on their own. Instead, these ghostly trees survive by connecting to a healthy parent tree through its roots and taking necessary nutrients.

Only a few hundred are known to exist, and their exact locations are often kept secret to protect them. This spooky season, if you're in California, you may see a real ghost hiding in the forest.
