What a wonderful evening supporting The Kitchen, Inc., an organization doing so much good in our community!

My husband and I teamed up with our good friends Jennifer and John Luce at a fundraising auction (Eyes in Disguise for The Kitchen Inc.), where we placed the winning bid on an incredible dinner for 12 at Metropolitan Grill, complete with bourbon and w**e!

We recently enjoyed that dinner, and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing, the drinks were fantastic, and the company was even better!

We originally planned on splitting the auction item with Jennifer and John, but they surprised us by picking up the whole tab! The least we could do was grab the tip. We’re so grateful for such thoughtful friends and a fun night supporting a great cause!

This is easily one of the best parts of our job.

We walked through the new shelter project at The Kitchen, Inc., and the place is buzzing. Staff and volunteers are on-site putting together furniture, stocking kitchen cabinets, and getting every room ready for the new tenants moving in.

Construction and punch lists are one thing, but seeing a space actually come to life for the people who will call it home is what it’s all about.

The official ribbon cutting is this Tuesday, October 27th at 11:00 AM. Huge thank you to the entire team and all the volunteers who poured their time into getting this across the finish line for our community.

We listen, we communicate, we deliver. Every time.

Had a great time at a recent Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce event hosted by The Network for Springfield's Young Professionals, bringing together seasoned professionals and younger local leaders for some real conversation.

The concept was straightforward: sit down at the same table, talk openly about the challenges facing our region, and share perspectives across different generations.

My takeaway? Experience gives you valuable lessons and hard-earned perspective, but the next generation brings fresh energy and a willingness to question "how things have always been done." When you combine the two instead of working in silos, you end up with much better ideas.

In architecture, no great building gets designed in a vacuum—it takes different viewpoints, active listening, and solid collaboration to get the job done right. Building a stronger community works the exact same way.

We listen, we communicate, we deliver. Every time.

I spotted this in a commercial bathroom stall the other day. That gray box labeled “ice machine” is actually an electrical junction box.

By code, junction boxes must remain accessible—meaning you can’t bury them behind drywall or finished wall panels. Well… it’s definitely accessible!

This is the classic result of what happens when jobsite coordination breaks down. You can almost hear the conversation in real time: the wall paneling goes up, the electrician points out that burying the box will fail inspection, and someone says, "No problem, we'll just cut a hole around it."

It’s a funny find, but it’s also a great reminder of why detailed drawings and upfront trade coordination matter so much. Skipping that step usually leads to... creative... field solutions like this one.

We listen, we communicate, we deliver. Every time.

Wow — this project is really coming along nicely!!

Can you smell the chicken yet? 😄

This may be a small building, but it is designed to be very efficient and will work great for Huey Magoo’s.

Inside, the kitchen equipment is starting to go in, and you can also see stainless steel wall surfaces in the kitchen areas. These durable, easy-to-clean finishes help support the sanitation and cleanliness requirements that come with a commercial food-service space via the Health Department.

Outside, the new siding is being installed — and it matches the bank next door! What a nice touch to help the building blend in with its surroundings.

They’ve also painted the brick and installed the herringbone flooring.

The Midtown Huey Magoo's location is almost open!

The building started as an old Subway restaurant, and we designed the remodel to match the Huey Magoo's brand, as well as fit in with the nearby commercial buildings.

The Hagale Family Office Building is becoming beautiful!!!

Haven’t I mentioned before — always look UP? You definitely don’t want to miss the ceilings in this project. They are a work of art! Nearly every space has something interesting happening overhead. Which one is your favorite?

Do you see the purple walls? That’s not their final color, it is moisture-resistant gypsum board, typically used in areas that may be exposed to moisture, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and other wet areas.

And look at that herringbone ceiling finish — such a great detail!

On the exterior, the glass is in, the stone and EIFS are installed, and everything is really starting to come together.

Ron Hill of Euro World Design,
Jeremy Carter of The Shade Above, and
Mike Strange of MWS Homes is the contractor.

Dirt is officially starting to move over on Primrose and Jefferson!

The heavy equipment is on-site, and the survey stakes are already going into the ground. If you look closely at one of them, you’ll see "Grid A-3" written across the wood.

In our architectural drawings, that stake marks an exact column line intersection for the structural frame. Before a contractor ever drops a bucket to dig, the team must make sure every single benchmark is located down to the inch.

A massive amount of coordination happens long before the first shovel hits the dirt, and it’s always fun to see those paper plans finally start translating to the physical site!

We listen, we communicate, we deliver. Every time.

Meleah Spencer, CEO of The Kitchen, Inc., and I attended Springfield Business Journal’s 2026 Business Leaders of the Year event, and it was such a great reminder of how many talented leaders we have right here in Springfield.

I had the opportunity to serve as a judge this year, and let me tell you — it was HARD to select only 20 honorees! There were so many impressive nominees with inspiring stories, strong leadership, and a real commitment to making a difference in our community.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients!

Crystal Miller and I recently attended Good Morning, Springfield! in Ozarks Technical Community College's newest building, “The U” — and wow, what a beautiful space!

It was a great setting for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce event, and I couldn’t help noticing a few design features along the way – a “hazard” of being an architect!! LOL.

On the upper level, there was a privacy pod where someone can step in to make a phone call to have a private conversation without disturbing others. It reminded me of an old-school phone booth, just a much more modern version! In a large, open space, one loud conversation can carry a long way, so this is such a smart solution.

And those “lines” hanging from the ceiling? They’re vertical acoustic baffles. In a space this large and open, sound can bounce and create a lot of unwanted noise. The baffles help absorb sound and improve the overall acoustics of the space. Nicely done!

The event itself focused on housing as a growing workforce and economic-development issue in Springfield. Panelists discussed the need for more attainable housing, greater housing variety, and continued collaboration between public and private partners.

One of the biggest takeaways: housing and workforce go hand in hand. If employees can’t find housing that fits their needs and income, it becomes much harder for businesses to recruit and retain talent.
