When you finally realize that joy

is less fireworks
more firefly

less orchestra
more birdsong

she will come back much more often

for joy will not fight
with the fast pace of this life
she is not in the shiny or the new

she breathes in the basic
simmers in the simple

Join me at Aullwood Audubon this Thursday, Oct 8th at 10am for a presentation on Ohio wetlands and plants as well as a short walk through Aullwood's wetland.

Marie Aull was a driving force behind the creation of Beaver Creek Wetlands Association and a lifelong conservationist in the Dayton area. She was a student of legendary botanist and ecologist E. Lucy Braun at the University of Cincinnati. They remained friends and the woodland poppies that still grow in the gardens were a gift from Braun. I'm honored to visit Aullwood and in my own small way continue the work and legacy of these incredible women that have done so much to teach about, discover, and preserve the living world.

💧 Want to see what the macroinvertebrates can tell us about water quality? Join us for macroinvertebrate sampling on October 4 & 5! 

We have four volunteer sampling opportunities available. You’ll help collect, sort, and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates while learning more about the health of our wetlands and waterways.

🌿 No macro expertise required. Just come ready to learn, explore, and get a little wet!
