Good lighting doesn’t just illuminate a space. It changes how you experience it.

Lighting is one of the most important elements we consider at Stratton Design Group. From architectural lighting that defines a room’s structure to decorative fixtures that add character, each layer has a role to play. 💡

The right lighting can draw attention to architectural details, create depth, make materials feel richer, and shift the atmosphere of a room from bright and energetic to warm and intimate.

With Doug’s background in film and television lighting, we approach illumination as more than a finishing touch. It’s part of the design from the very beginning.

Because when lighting is done well, you may not notice the source, but you’ll absolutely notice how the room feels.

A transformation is about more than what you see, it’s about how the space is reimagined.

These before-and-afters show how thoughtful design can completely change the character of a home while still working with the architecture that’s already there.

From refining the fireplace and built-ins to rethinking furnishings, color, lighting, and details throughout the space, each update was intentional. The result feels more layered, personal, and connected to the way the homeowners live. ✨

Meet Colleen Mason, Interior Designer ✨

Colleen is originally from Fishers, Indiana. She attended Indiana State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture Design with a minor in Construction Management. Colleen always knew interior design and architecture was her calling and spend countless hours as a child scrapbooking moodboards.

She began her career in the commercial sector following a successful internship in Naples, Florida. During her years in Naples, Colleen contributed to a wide range of projects including a casino, country clubs, condominiums, senior living facilities, and corporate offices. This experience provided a wide working knowledge base of design fundamentals, materials and finishes selection, furniture type applications, project management, and procurement procedures. After two years in Florida, she decided it was time for a change of scenery and lifestyle. She was drawn to North Carolina and relocated to scenic Asheville.

Always interested in residential design, Colleen is happy to be part of the team at SDG. She loves the complexity and challenges of interior design and the process of making homes that are lovely and functional for her clients. Out of the office, Colleen can be found playing piano, hiking, and frequenting local coffee shops.

Wellness is coming home.

One of the most interesting shifts in residential design is the move from visiting wellness spaces to building wellness into everyday life. Instead of reserving recovery, movement, and restoration for a trip to the spa, homeowners are creating environments that support those rituals at home.

Think spa-inspired bathrooms, dedicated saunas, private workout spaces, recovery rooms, and thoughtfully designed spaces for rest and reflection. ✨

For designers, this changes the conversation. Wellness isn’t simply an amenity added to a home. It becomes part of how the home is planned from the beginning.

As longevity and healthspan become increasingly important to homeowners, we’re asking a different question: What if your home could actively support the way you want to live for years to come?

You shouldn’t have to imagine what your finished space will look like.

At Stratton Design Group, we specialize in bringing the vision to life through detailed 3D renders. Before construction begins, you can visually experience your space from start to finish and see how the architecture, materials, finishes, and lighting come together.

The result? Fewer surprises, greater confidence, and a clear vision of where the design is headed.

Because thoughtful design starts with knowing exactly where you’re going. ✨

Meet April Harrington, Interior Designer ✨

April Harrington grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Western Carolina University. From the moment she began design school, she knew residential interior design was the path she wanted to pursue.

April is especially drawn to the relationships built through residential design. She enjoys collaborating closely with clients and believes the design process should reflect the personality, lifestyle, and story of the people who live in the home. For April, designing a home is a very personal process. She loves helping bring a client’s vision to life and creating spaces that truly feel like a reflection of the people who live there.

With a strong appreciation for the details, April carefully refines every element of a space until it feels both functional and aesthetically complete. She thrives on the creative flexibility that residential design offers and loves that every home she works on is entirely unique, which keeps the process fresh and inspiring.

Her personal design style blends modern and organic elements with a subtle European flair. She loves mixing patterns and textures to give a home depth and character, creating spaces that feel warm, balanced, and thoughtfully put together.

Outside of the office, April enjoys staying active, spending time on the boat, and being with friends and family. 🎉 And she’s celebrating her birthday this week!

Same space. Completely different experience. ✨

The goal of a renovation isn’t simply to make a room look newer. It’s to reconsider how the space functions, how light moves through it, and how every element works together.

Here, a dated kitchen becomes a refined, highly considered space through intentional planning, custom cabinetry, material selection, and layered lighting.
