Stucco has a reputation problem in the Pacific Northwest, but we love it when it’s done correctly. We always install a drainage mat over the building paper to create a secondary drainage plane before applying the stucco. When the stucco inevitably cracks, water has a path to escape, keeping the home dry.
We also embed a fiber reinforcing mesh between the scratch and brown coats and the finish coat, which minimizes cracking and allows us to skip the control joints that interrupt the wall. The result is a smoother, more authentic stucco finish that holds up to our wet climate.
