๐ฉบ TODAYโS HEALTHCARE DECODE: What Does โA1Cโ Mean?
You may hear your doctor say, โWeโre going to check your A1C.โ
But what exactly is it?
๐ฉธ A1C is a blood test that gives an estimate of your average blood sugar over the past 2โ3 months.
In general:
โ
Below 5.7% โ considered normal
โ ๏ธ 5.7%โ6.4% โ prediabetes range
๐ด 6.5% or higher โ may indicate diabetes
One important thing to know: A1C is different from a regular blood sugar check. A glucose reading tells you your blood sugar at that moment, while A1C gives a bigger-picture view.
๐ก Simply decoded:
Glucose = a snapshot ๐ธ
A1C = the bigger picture ๐ผ๏ธ
Your healthcare provider considers your full medical history and may repeat testing before making a diagnosis.
