QKA’s Chris Calder and Ryan Kates recently hit the links at Crow Canyon Country Club for Swing For the Sisterhood, supporting The Sisterhood of Sobriety and its mission. ⛳

It was a meaningful day centered on community, connection, and a cause that both Chris and Ryan care deeply about. Hearing from the program’s alumni was an especially powerful part of the event, highlighting the impact that support and opportunities for recovery can have on individuals and families.

At QKA, our commitment to students and communities extends beyond the spaces we design. We’re grateful Chris and Ryan had the opportunity to represent QKA and support a cause that means so much to them.

Construction Inclusion Week is an opportunity to come together, share experiences, and reflect on how our industry can continue becoming more inclusive and supportive of future generations.

As part of CIW, Malia Johnson participated in a panel focused on young professionals and how the industry can better support and connect with emerging talent. Drawing from her own journey, Malia shared how mentorship, networking, and meaningful relationships have helped shape her education and career.

Her experience is a reminder that building a stronger, more inclusive industry starts with investing in people, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for the next generation to grow.

Thank you, Malia, for representing QKA and contributing your perspective to Construction Inclusion Week!

QKA recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special event honoring our team, clients, partners, and community. The celebration also provided an opportunity to formally recognize founders Mark Quattrocchi and Steve Kwok on their retirement and to reflect on the lasting impact they have had on the firm over the past four decades. We are incredibly grateful for their vision, leadership, and dedication in building the foundation of what QKA is today.

The event was held at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, a setting that reflects QKA's commitment to creating healthy, sustainable environments that support learning and inspire future generations. Surrounded by exhibits that educate and connect people with the natural world, guests gathered to celebrate our history, our people, and the values that continue to guide us forward.

QKA’s Joel Williams and Alexa Riner had a great time at Net Zero 2026! 🌱 Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Folia booth to connect with us.

One highlight was a thoughtful conversation with two college students about balancing sustainability goals, including indoor air quality and HVAC energy demands.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and attending next year’s conference!

Danielle shares what excites her most about joining QKA:

Danielle Dratch and Joel Williams recently participated in an Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) event hosted by Girls Inc. of Metro Denver to teach members about the different disciplines within the AEC industry. Approximately 50 teens participated in the event.

QKA hosted an architecture station focused on space planning. Small groups were tasked with designing their ideal school building using a blank floor plan that included exterior walls and columns. Each group was required to incorporate a minimum number of different types of spaces, including classrooms, learning labs, offices, study rooms, conference rooms, and storage areas. The groups had 10 to 15 minutes to develop their plans before presenting their final designs, discussing their ideas with the other groups, and receiving feedback on their projects.

Programs like this are important because they give teens hands-on experience exploring different professions. They also highlight the AEC industry as a potential career path for students who may not have previously considered it. In fact, after participating in the activities, one teen expressed interest in pursuing an internship at QKA's Denver office.

A4LE recently hosted tours of Lake Elementary School and Michelle Obama School. QKA's Aaron Jobson, Brooke Knight, Eddie VanSlambrouck, and Lyanne Schuster attended the event.

Eddie led the tour of Lake Elementary School, a recently completed QKA-designed campus that celebrated its ribbon cutting earlier this year. The school serves 346 students in grades K-6.

The second location visited was Michelle Obama School, which opened in October 2020 and serves 431 students. Both schools are part of West Contra Costa Unified School District, which co-sponsored the event with A4LE.

The tours provided an opportunity for partners and clients to experience these educational environments firsthand and learn more about the design solutions that support student success. A key focus was comparing two campuses with similar educational model goals and exploring how those concepts were implemented in unique ways at each site.
