Nothing like a quick trip to Kansas to see a project come to life! ✈️

One day. Two flights. A whole lot of furniture. 👏

There’s something so rewarding about walking into a space and seeing all the planning, selections, and coordination finally come together.

We may have been in Kansas for just a few hours, but seeing the finished product in person? Worth every minute.

Because great design doesn’t stop when the furniture is ordered. We love seeing it all come together. ❤️

Meet Polly. 🦩❤️ (Okay, she’s a pelican, but there’s no pelican emoji.)

She may be small, but she’s kind of a big deal around here.

When KDI was founded, our founders believed the pelican represented something bigger: tenacity, integrity, perseverance, and the values that would become the foundation of our company.

Fast-forward to today, and we’ve got Pete, our larger-than-life office pelican, and Polly, his much more adventurous counterpart.

Polly travels to job sites, makes appearances at photoshoots, and even gets passed around as our unofficial Employee of the Month trophy. She’s basically our most well-traveled (and least productive) team member.

Naturally, she had to make an appearance at our team photoshoot today. 📸

A little quirky? Absolutely. But that’s KDI. We take our work seriously. Ourselves? Not so much.

Some walls are meant to make a statement. Others ARE the statement. 🌸

From rendering to reality, and we might be a little obsessed with how this one turned out.

We designed this custom, oversized floral mural for a multifamily property in Minnesota, transforming an otherwise ordinary exterior wall into a seriously unforgettable moment.

Bold in scale. Intricate in detail. And proof that great design doesn’t stop at the front door.

Because when you’re competing for residents, every square foot is an opportunity to stand out. Yes, even the outside of your building.

The best part? Seeing something we dreamed up on a screen come to life at this scale.

POV: You work at an interior design firm where “other duties as assigned” apparently includes becoming a ghost. 👻

Are we designing commercial spaces? Yes.
Are we also running around the office in bedsheets for content? Also yes.

Some call it team building. We call it a perfectly normal Thursday at KDI. 💀

Apparently, we’ve all been interviewing wrong. ☕️😂

We asked the KDI Team one simple question: “Would you bring an iced coffee to a job interview?”

The entire team said NO.

Except our boss. You know, the one actually doing the hiring. 💀

Turns out, the rest of us have been following interview rules that apparently don’t exist.

And honestly? We’re starting to think showing up with an iced coffee might actually earn you bonus points around here.

Now we need to settle this debate.

Is bringing an iced coffee to an interview a red flag or a green flag? 👀

Hard hats, but make them mini. 👷‍♀️

Yesterday’s client meeting was all about bringing some personality into the workplace of a local general contractor who’s ready to give their office a serious refresh.

We’re talking rich rust tones, deep navy, warm textures, unexpected patterns, and a whole lot of character. Because even the people who build incredible spaces deserve to work in one.

And yes, those are 3D-printed miniature hard hats we brought to the meeting. Because why show up with just material samples when you can have a little fun with it?

Good design is in the details. Great design knows its audience.

If you think commercial furniture is boring, you haven’t seen what we saw yesterday. 👀🔥

Yesterday, the KDI Team traded our desks for a little design inspiration in Chicago’s Fulton Market, and let’s just say… we’re STILL thinking about the color. 🌈

Two showrooms. Two completely different approaches. Both absolutely nailed it.

💎 OFS brought the drama with rich jewel tones, sophisticated palettes, and layered combinations that felt effortlessly elevated.

⚡ KI went bold. Cobalt blues, unexpected color pairings, and fearless combinations that made us rethink everything we thought we knew about commercial spaces.

And THAT was our biggest takeaway.

Color isn’t just a finishing touch. It’s what makes a space unforgettable.

We left with camera rolls full of inspiration, about a million new ideas, and a renewed excitement to bring some of that energy into the projects we’re working on.

Because commercial interiors don’t have to play it safe. And quite frankly, we don’t think they should. 😉
