🌿💚 WENT FOR FAMILY TIME… LEFT WITH A PLANT RESCUE MISSION! 😂🪴

Sometimes the best days are the ones you don't plan!

We spent a wonderful day surrounded by family, enjoying good company, Halloween festivities, and making memories. 🎃❤️

But naturally, we couldn't leave without getting our hands on a few plants! 😂

Some beautiful Monsteras needed a little extra love after originally being rescued from big-box stores, and you KNOW we couldn't pass up the opportunity!

🌱 So they're coming home with Flower City Roots for a little plant rehabilitation!

We'll be assessing their health, checking roots, addressing damaged foliage, and making sure they have the proper growing conditions to bounce back before returning them home.

💚 A struggling plant isn't necessarily a dying plant!

Sometimes all it needs is the right environment, a little patience, and someone willing to understand what it's telling us.

That's one of the things we love about what we do. We don't just install gardens. We help people care for the living things already sharing their spaces, indoors and out.

A beautiful day with family, a little Halloween fun, and a few new leafy patients. 🌿

Not a bad day at all! 😍

Because at Flower City Roots, we believe there's always something worth saving, nurturing, and helping grow.

💜🌱 LITTLE GOLDEN TREASURES WITH A TOUCH OF PURPLE! 🌱💛

Our visit to LaMora Farms in Ontario, NY, came with another wonderful little discovery!

GROUND CHERRIES! 😍

Lina was absolutely fascinated by the beautiful purple swirls and markings on some of these golden little fruits. 💜 And naturally, we had to take a closer look!

🌿 Did you know?

Ground cherries are members of the nightshade family, related to tomatoes and tomatillos! They grow inside delicate, papery husks and develop a wonderfully sweet, tangy flavor when fully ripe.

Their flavor is often described as a combination of pineapple, tomato, and tropical fruit! 🍍

But the ground cherries were just one of the treasures at LaMora Farms!

🌻 Established in 2008 by Earl and Lindsay LaMora, this family farm grows approximately 75 acres of fruits and vegetables, including apples, peaches, cherries, berries, and more!

From fresh produce and baked goods to c***r, eggs, homemade-style salsas, pumpkins, and gourds, there's so much to explore!

💚 We love finding local farms that make growing, food, and agriculture an experience families can enjoy together.

Go show them some love! Supporting local agriculture means supporting the families and communities behind our food. 🌱❤️

Sometimes the smallest harvests spark the biggest curiosity! 💜

🎃🌻 WE CAME FOR PUMPKINS… AND LEFT WITH SO MUCH MORE! 🐐🍐

Over the weekend, we made a little trip to LaMora Farms in Ontario, NY, and what was supposed to be a quick pumpkin stop turned into a wonderful afternoon exploring another local farm! ❤️🌿

And you know us… we can't resist a good farm stand! 😂

🎃 Beautiful pumpkins of all shapes and sizes
🍂 Gorgeous ornamental gourds
🍪 A delicious s'mores cookie
🌱 Ground cherries by the pint — a family favorite!
🍐 Lina's favorite pears
🐓 And of course, we had to visit the chickens and goats!

There's something special about visiting a local farm, meeting the animals, exploring the harvest, and seeing the hard work that goes into growing food for our communities.

At Flower City Roots, we're huge believers in supporting the people who grow, raise, create, and cultivate right here in our own backyard.

A big thank-you to LaMora Farms for such a lovely visit! We absolutely got more than we planned for, and we're not complaining one bit! 😂💚

🎃🌱 EAT SOME. PLANT SOME. SAVE SOME. SHARE SOME! 🌱🎃

ANOTHER INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY DONATION! 💚

A HUGE thank you to Stony Brook Wholeheartedfoods for generously supporting our Great Pumpkin Seed Event with their delicious, New York-grown pepitas (roasted pumpkin seeds) and promotional materials!

And they didn't just send a donation — they sent a beautiful package full of goodies to help us celebrate and educate our community! 🥹❤️

🌻 Why are we so excited about pepitas?

Because they help us tell the FULL story of a seed!

🎃 EAT SOME! Pumpkin seeds are nutritious, delicious, and packed with protein, healthy fats, and minerals.

🌱 PLANT SOME! With viable, untreated seeds, we can grow another generation of pumpkins!

🍂 SAVE SOME! Learning how to harvest, dry, and properly store seeds helps preserve future harvests.

❤️ SHARE SOME! Whether it's seeds, food, or knowledge, sharing is how we grow stronger communities.

And that's exactly what this event is all about!

We're especially excited to showcase a New York business helping connect local agriculture with the foods we enjoy every day.

Thank you, Stony Brook, for believing in what we're building and helping us bring this educational experience to our neighbors! 💚

🌱🐝 ANOTHER INCREDIBLE DONATION FOR THE GREAT PUMPKIN EVENT! 🎃💚

200 bags. 5 seed bombs each. 1,000 opportunities to grow something beautiful! 🌸🦋

We want to extend a HUGE thank-you to EquiCenter — William & Mildred Levine Ranch in Honeoye Falls for this incredibly thoughtful donation to our Halloween community event!

A special thank-you to Katie Nuber, Director of Outdoor Learning, along with EquiCenter's Farm Friends and transitional groups, who helped create these wonderful packages of native pollinator wildflower seed bombs!

And these aren't just seeds in a bag!

Each package contains five handmade seed bombs, planting instructions, and information about EquiCenter's Outdoor Learning Programs.

🌼 Native wildflowers help support local biodiversity.

🐝 Pollinator-friendly plants can provide food and habitat for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

🌱 Gardening encourages curiosity, learning, and meaningful connections with the natural world.

❤️ And every one of these packages represents people coming together to create something that can benefit others.

What makes this donation especially meaningful is the community connection behind it. EquiCenter's programs bring people together through horticulture, outdoor education, and hands-on experiences that encourage growth in more ways than one.

Now, thanks to their generosity, 200 more members of our community will have an opportunity to plant something wonderful!

We recently had the pleasure of visiting EquiCenter, meeting Katie, and learning more about the amazing work happening there. We're excited about the relationships being built and the opportunities to cross-pollinate our efforts in the future!

Please take a moment to show them some love and learn more about their incredible mission!

🌿 EquiCenter: www.equicenterny.org

From everyone at Flower City Roots, thank you for helping us spread seeds, knowledge, kindness, and community spirit!

Because sometimes the smallest seeds grow into the biggest connections. 💚

Every square foot can do more than one job.
