Thinking about starting or scaling a food business? Before you scale up your first batch, work through these five things:
1️⃣ What you'll make. Narrow down your menu. One or two great products beat ten good ones.
2️⃣ Where you'll sell. Farmers markets, wholesale, events, and online each come with different requirements. Not sure what those are? Just ask!
3️⃣ Which license you need. The license you apply for depends on your product and how you sell it. Yavapai County Community Health Services issues all licenses, but you'll usually need a commissary agreement from us first.
4️⃣ Where you'll make it. Your home kitchen may work at first, but many products and sales channels require a licensed commercial kitchen.
5️⃣ What it really costs. Ingredients are only part of the costs involved in a food business. Count packaging, labels, kitchen time, permits, and your own labor too.
Every food business at NoCo once had these same questions. Have one we can help with? Email our Kitchen Manager at [email protected].
