We’re honored to have our Baylight project featured in this year’s Maine Home+Design Architecture Issue, alongside 16 other projects celebrating the incredible architecture happening across Maine.

The issue explores how Maine architecture is shaped by a sense of place: how a home settles into the landscape, frames a view, or gives an existing building new life. It’s a sentiment that feels right at home with the way we approach our work.

Designer Henri also made the pages in the magazine’s recap of its annual Drink + Sketch event, where Maine architects gather to share a few drinks and turn creative prompts into napkin sketches. His lighthouse keeper’s cottage was among the concepts featured.

Thanks to Maine Home + Design for including us, and for continuing to celebrate the people and ideas shaping Maine’s built environment!

When the temperatures drop, a well-placed wood stove makes a pretty compelling gathering spot. 🔥

At our Woods + Water project, floor-to-ceiling glass frames views of the ocean and surrounding trees, while the freestanding stove brings warmth and a natural focal point to the living space.

A front-row seat to the changing seasons, a fire going, and nowhere else to be. Twist our arms… we’ll take it. 🍂

A little vintage charm, a little modern comfort.

For our Vintage Vibe project in Portland’s Deering neighborhood, the goal was to breathe new life into a well-loved historic duplex without losing the character that made it special in the first place.

From the original architectural details to the playful mix of colors and patterns, this home is a great example of how old and new can work beautifully together.

Explore more of this transformation in the Vintage Vibe section of our project gallery, linked in bio!

What makes a kitchen a great kitchen? A good layout and plenty of prep space are a start. But what about a place to sit with a cup of coffee, chat with whoever’s cooking?

A recent article got us thinking about the kitchen as the new living room, and this Peaks Island project is a good example of why that idea resonates with us.

For a family that loves to cook and socialize, the goal was to make the kitchen work just as well for gathering as it does for cooking. A professional stove and expanded prep space bring the function, while counter stools, comfy seating, and plenty of natural light make it a place to settle in, catch up, and spend time together.

So, is the kitchen the new living room? We’re not arguing. ☕️

Swipe to witness peak athletic performance. ➡️

We’re well into our first season of the architecture + construction bowling league, and the stats are in! Not to brag, but we’re holding down the very bottom of the leaderboard with unmatched consistency. 💅

Turns out, we’re better at building things than knocking them down… 🤷

Happy World Architecture Day!

You know us for building high-performance homes. You might not know we're also an award-winning architecture firm.

In honor of the occasion, we’re sharing our East View project, a family retreat in Casco Bay and winner of AIA Maine's 2025 Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture (Professional Unbuilt category).

🌿 The brief: a modest, welcoming island home that belongs in its setting
🌿 The challenges: shoreland zoning, wetlands, flood zones, sea-level rise, and storm surges
🌿 The plan: three forms that follow the slope, connected by terraces, with railing-free, low-to-grade decks that keep the views unobstructed

East View captures so much of what we love about architecture: responding to a place, supporting the way people live, and creating something built to stand the test of time.

This project began with a request for a humble bunkhouse. Its breathtaking site, a bluff of spruce and pine overlooking Casco Bay, inspired what evolved into a dramatic studio. Divided into two distinct halves and woven together by 1,000 square feet of cedar decking, the building creates complete immersion in its stunning surroundings.

Designed and built to maximize environmental sustainability and minimize its carbon footprint, the building features locally sawn white cedar siding, decking, and pergola framing, with seams painstakingly aligned across the walls, doors, and even the floors. Cabinetry, flooring, and trim are made of rift-sawn white oak.

As autumn settles in along the coast, the surrounding woods bring a whole new layer of color and character to this already unforgettable place. Built to embrace its seaside setting and endure the elements, it's a beautiful example of thoughtful design that feels right at home in every season. 🍂🌲

We’ve got nothing against a bedroom TV, but when nature gives you a view like this, you frame it.

Instead of relying on traditional wall placements, we designed custom floating headboards to position the beds directly toward the water, making the horizon the first thing you see each morning.
