With few exceptions, Patrick Stewart has always been my idol. When I was an actor, I wanted to be him. When he was a captain, I wanted to serve on his bridge. When he was Professor X, I wanted to go to his school. When I worked in film, I desperately wanted to work with him. When he read The Christmas Carol, I wanted to sit with him next to a fire and enjoy his words. When he played 💩, I only saw that movie for him.
A million times, in my head, I’ve looked at a challenge and just said, “Make it so.” Three words that inspired me to do things I would never had the courage to do otherwise.
Patrick Stewart was both legacy and inspiration defined.
I will miss him.
I think it’s time for my 8th or 9th complete rewatch of every episode of TNG.

I recently made a post that simply said “AI BS” and voiced my concerns about the rise in AI usage. It was a reaction to another vendor that was pushing a pro-AI agenda that was just… not good. The post was particularly accusatory of people, like myself, who took a firmer stance against AI as “I’ll-informed”, “unreasonable”, “hypocrital”“unrealistic”, so I fired back with the same energy I felt was being pushed to justify an apathetic approach to the situation. Lost a few followers, but hey, I stood up for the right message, so no shame on this end!
It’s just weird that a stance that supports fair wages, artists, and small businesses would be that controversial.
I don’t see this loss as a bad thing, I actually see it more as a filter that got rid of a few bad eggs.
While I’m here, I wanted to add something I never got into before. History!
Automation has been a prevalent concern since the Industrial Revolution, right? Well, as multiple industries turned to factories and production methods that hastened the inevitable loss of jobs and hand-made goods, there had to be a resistance. I fully understand and acknowledge the inevitability of automation in the form of AI, but just like the Industrial Revolution there has to be a counterbalance between the goals of the most wealthy and the goals of the people.
The benefits of AI for larger companies is not simply becoming more efficient, it’s also to cut overhead. What’s the biggest overhead? Labor. Our jobs. The long term effects of AI simply do not align with our best interests. They are aligned with making someone who makes billions, to make more billions. That’s it. The long term does not mean nearly as much as the next quarter in the eyes of stockholders.
This has been an ongoing theme throughout history as the wealthiest sections of society are concerned with reducing labor costs, not taking care of those who do the labor.
Why do we have a 5 day work week? Why do we have sick days? Vacation time? Well, thank those that resisted, protested, and even died in order to make our lives better at the expense of the most greedy.

End rant!

This is either a very complex conversation or a simple one.
No, anti-ai people are not stupid.
A lot of propaganda memes are popping up supporting AI or lessening legitimate concerns.
Yes, we know we are using AI whether we like it or not. IG, FB, TikTok, Google, and virtually anywhere we go on the internet today uses AI. I know there is a factor of inevitability when it comes to technological advancement.
This conversation is at least as old as the Industrial Revolution. How far can automation go? How many people can a machine replace? Now that we have a printing press will people have their face in a book all the time?
As long as we’ve had tools of automation, people have been exploring the possibilities of automated people. 🤖
However, a lot of these ideas haven’t taken into account environmental or power concerns, or the idea of copyright infringements, identity and likeness theft, or how easily these tools are being abused not only by individuals, but also corporations and governments.
Multiple lawsuits in different states are already addressing water shortages and the constant “hum” is not just lowering property value around these data centers but is also showing links to negative health impacts for people, pets, and livestock.
Now, go back to just a decade or two ago. At that time most of us were aware of algorithms and roughly how they worked. We didn’t like it. However, the best way to spread the word about our small businesses, keep track of people and things we cared about, and share memes, was to sign up for all these social media platforms.
They took off. They became our window to the world. They became a means of survival for many of us.
Since these platforms have been so integrated into our modern world, it’s easy to argue that these are utilities, just like electricity. They are now a means of success or failure, collapse or survival.
Personally, because of all this, I believe knocking someone’s concerns about AI, is oversimplifying a real conversation and just childish.

Considering all this and more, it’s a lot easier to simply say AI is BS, and AI art is slop. Pay an artist or learn a few design tips.
I could go on, but there’s a word limi
