Late October on the Cape. The summer houses are closing up, and the year-round ones are lighting up a little earlier every night.

Don't forget to change the clocks this weekend!

A Cape in Dennis, down to the wrap.
This house is getting new exteriors – new dipped cedar shingles, full trim, new gutters, and sections of roof. Everyone sees the immediate curb appeal upgrade and it will look clean and refreshed, and brand new. The care we take with installation will determine how the next thirty winters go.

House wrap today. Fresh new exteriors soon. Stay tuned!

First fire of the season.

Blackened brick, a mantel we built on site, and the exact moment a Cape house stops being a summer house.

Quick thoughts on Houzz’s Fall Design Trends Report from the field:

What we already do daily: Layering warm woods, natural stone, and handcrafted tile. Cape Cod architecture has always leaned into natural materials that age gracefully over time. Minimalism may be on its way out - so more rich tones and traditional lines - always a popular choice for Cape Cod homes.

One takeaway: Homeowners are building for the long haul. Houzz notes that 61% of clients plan to stay in their homes for 11+ years. Designing for longevity means prioritizing structural quality, and adaptable layouts.

It’s not every day you get asked to put a two-lane bowling alley on the lower level of a house in Osterville.

People ask if we can handle custom builds like this—the answer is always yes, but step one is getting that floor perfectly flat and prepped!

For many of our Cape Cod neighbors, aging in place safely is a priority.

Accessibility should be thoughtful, not just "add a grab bar." For this historic Centerville home, we built the safety features directly into the design.

Zero-threshold entry—no curb to step over.
Extra wall blocking so grab bars go where you need them, not just where studs land.
Built-in bench seat and handshower .

Staying in the Cape house you love shouldn't mean sacrificing design. If you want to make adjustments to your home to accommodate your family's changing needs, call us.

The best seat in the house? The one built right into it.

Morning sun, favorite book, or the dog’s preferred nap spot—every cozy nook tells a story. Great design isn't always about adding more space; it's about elevating the space you have.

Hydrangeas past their peak are the better version.

The blue goes green, then a kind of antique rose, and they hold that for weeks.
Everyone photographs them in July, but there is a special magic that matches the season in September.
