Sheelytown Market as a full-time plant store. Oh, those were the days.
I’ve been remembering so many beautiful moments throughout these six years. The people, the plants, the struggle, the grief, and all the ways we kept showing up for each other.
I held on as hard as I could. Probably longer than a “smart businesswoman” would have. But the very real exchanges and moments with you all kept me believing.
If love was enough, Sheelytown Market, the plant store, would still be here.
But love doesn’t pay the bills, and money is tighter than it has ever been for so many of us. Small businesses are struggling. Families are struggling. People are working harder for less and trying to figure out what can give.
We risked that the worst possible outcomes wouldn’t happen, but they did.
And I know we aren’t alone in that.
There is a lot of uncertainty around us right now. There is grief in realizing that some of the things we worked so hard to build might not survive this version of the world.
S**t is hard.
But we are harder.
The plant store has grown into something else. Sheelytown Market is alive and well.
We’re sharing the space. We’re making things and learning things. We’ll cowork on Tuesdays and repot and chill on Thursday nights. We still have our markets. We still have each other.
I don’t know what the future holds for Sheelytown, or honestly, for any of us.
So we’re going to keep gathering. Keep sharing what we know. Keep supporting each other. Keep making something out of what we have.
Stick with us, friends.
We’ll figure out what comes next together. See you at the next night market!
Love,
Mrs. Sheelytown
