A little drama feels right at home in this historic Salem residence. With its rich architectural history and unmistakable Victorian character, this 1871 French Mansard home gave us plenty of inspiration to work with. We leaned into the more dramatic side of Victorian design, embracing rich velvet upholstery, sweeping drapery, and a deep, saturated color palette that feels both sophisticated and a little mysterious.

The result is a space that celebrates the home's history without feeling bound by it, bringing together old-world elegance, contemporary furnishings, and a few unexpected details for a fresh take on Victorian living.

There's no better time of year to appreciate a historic home in Salem than in October. Rich in architectural detail and historic charm, this 1871 French Mansard Victorian certainly had no shortage of character.

Our approach was to celebrate the home's history while breathing new life into the interiors. We embraced its Victorian roots through color, pattern, and texture, highlighting original features while bringing in contemporary pieces for a fresh perspective.

A little glimpse at what caught our eye at this fall.

One of the things we love most about this industry is that there's always something new to discover. And while we certainly have our favorite collections and trusted sources, there's nothing quite like seeing pieces in person, getting a closer look at the craftsmanship, and stumbling upon something completely unexpected.

Market is a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new makers, and explore ideas we might not have considered otherwise. We always come home with a few new favorites, plenty of inspiration, and a running list of pieces we're already envisioning in future projects.

Sometimes it’s nice to have somewhere to retreat without being on your own. That was the idea behind the first-floor lounge at Jerusalem Heights — a relaxed place for the family to gather, tucked away from the main living spaces two levels up. It works just as well for a quiet afternoon as it does for lingering with a drink at the end of the day.

We leaned into a richer, more grounded palette here, using deeper green upholstery, warm wood and layered neutrals to give the lounge a sense of intimacy and ease.

Located on the home’s beach level, this powder room is part of a floor designed around easy transitions in and out of the house. We carried the blue-green palette and relaxed material story into the space so even its most practical moments still feel considered, cohesive and unmistakably part of Jerusalem Heights.

We knew this corner of the kitchen had the potential to become one of those places everyone naturally gravitates toward. The custom built-in banquette catches the morning sun and creates an easy spot for coffee, breakfast and lingering a little longer than planned.

The intention here was to create a gathering space that felt softer and more intimate, which is why we leaned into rounded forms and a restrained palette of blue-greens and warm neutrals that echoes the landscape beyond the windows.

Not every bedroom in a family home needs to speak the same language in exactly the same way. One of our favorite parts of designing Jerusalem Heights was giving each bedroom its own identity.

Here, we leaned into a softer, more serene direction, allowing the room to feel distinct while still carrying through the warmth, texture and sense of ease found throughout the home.

A coastal setting can inspire a home’s design in subtle ways. At Jerusalem Heights, we drew on warm wood, natural textures and a soft, tonal palette to capture the ease of life by the water. The result is a quieter interpretation of coastal design, one that feels connected to the setting without relying on anything too literal.

The kind of room where guests settle in and stay awhile.

At Jerusalem Heights, our clients wanted a space where hosting felt relaxed and guests could make themselves comfortable. We designed the family room with that in mind, making conversation easy and leaving plenty of room for an evening to unfold without an agenda.

The best gatherings always seem to find their way into the kitchen.

At Jerusalem Heights, we designed the third-floor kitchen and adjoining family room to feel cohesive and welcoming, keeping everyone connected — whether they’re preparing a meal or simply spending time together.

Warm wood, soft blue-green tile and lighter finishes give the space an inviting, fresh coastal feel. The palette flows between the two rooms, giving each its own character while bringing the whole floor together.
