Let's talk about Tonala pottery. As with most pottery styles in Mexico, Tonala is named for the place it originated. Many people are familiar with Ken Edward's Tonala Pottery, however the primitive designs and matte appearance of Tonala pottery dates back to primitive civilizations in Mexico. Traditionally, Tonala is made in earth tones with small details in blue. Plates often depict birds or plants. The beauty of this pottery is the rustic handmade quality and primitive art associated with Tonala.
This piece of Tonala pottery is a chicken. I was attracted to this piece because seeing something in green is unusual. Of course who doesn't appreciate a chicken? It's a primitive piece but, it's also whimsical. It shows the creator took risk. This chicken is for sale on the Rejunkery on eBay page.
9.5" long, 7" tall, made of earthenware, fun green color.
