After sorting through my vast stash, separating by possible colors, spending a lot of time looking for a workable picture/pattern, gathering courage and finally being in the right frame of mind- I got to weaving my latest landscape wall hanging.
Kudos to Kathy Marty of Windy Hill Weavers who inspired me to try this and does a fantastic job on her landscape rugs.
As I wove this, I was humbled to realize that I serve a God who delights to show us his handwork and who speaks such beauty into existence. He says “let it be” and it is. Every day God paints the skies for us to enjoy. Beautiful sunsets, storm clouds, and bright sunshiny days are all made by him.
I realize that this rug is but a cheap imitation of His glory and power. As Joyce Kilmer Oates said “ Poems are written by fools like me, but only God can make a tree.” I submit to you that “rugs are woven by fools like me, but only God can paint a sunset”.

The most popular rugs at recent shows have been very neutral colored. Tan, gray, taupe, cream with maybe a hint of green or blue thrown in and so I have been diligent in replenishing those color ways.
But I love color! And rewarded myself by spending some time this morning going through my stash to find suitable weft for another sunset rug/wallhanging. Landscape rugs have also been in high demand and I do not have anymore in stock. It is times like this that I love my vast selection of fabrics and selvages and will most likely do some more digging before starting to weave. I do not know how many of these will make it into the final product but anticipate a happy time putting it all together. Landscape rugs are incredibly slow weaving and challenging, but a nice change from mindless neutrals. Each one takes on a life of its own, no matter the vision I have in my head.

My last show of the year is always a great one. So many talented fiber artists in one place!

Another fabulous class!
“a parallel threading is the weavers playground” taught by Robyn Spady and hosted at Tabby Tree Weaver
All of these designs were woven on the same warp This is not a finished project, but a way for me to experiment with different colors and weights(some unexpected beauties!). I will keep this weaving with the patterns for future reference.
We learned so much about manipulating drafts with computer software and the possibilities of parallel drafts. Well worth my time.
