Throwback Thursday, and with Halloween two days out we had to bring this one back. Last year the whole crew committed all the way and became the Nonnas and Nonnos — grey curls, housecoats, shawls, canes, the full production — and took the invasion door to door with the kids in tow. Family is the entire reason this company exists, so a holiday that gets everyone together in one gloriously ridiculous group costume is kind of our love language. Notice the green board? That's moisture-resistant drywall, made for the steam and humidity a bathroom deals with every day. Around the tub, where the walls actually get wet, we use cement board instead. Regular drywall falls apart when water reaches it, but cement board holds up and gives your tile a solid base to stick to.
You'll never see either one once the room is finished, but they're a big part of why a bathroom holds up for years instead of growing mold behind the tile.

Tip Tuesday: thinking about new siding? The most important part is what goes underneath it.

First comes the house wrap. It's the barrier that keeps rain and moisture out of your walls, so water never gets the chance to cause rot or mold where you can't see it.

Next comes insulation. This extra layer goes on before the siding and helps hold heat in during a Long Island winter, making your home more comfortable year-round. Always ask your contractor what's going behind your siding, not just on top of it.

Install matters too. Vinyl expands in the summer heat and shrinks in the winter cold, so it should be nailed loose enough to move. When it's pinned too tight, you end up with buckling and waves down the road.

Love the look of cedar but not the upkeep? Real cedar needs staining and sealing, and it can rot over time. CertainTeed Cedar Shake gives you that classic shingle texture with none of that maintenance.

Every year, Nonna gets her pumpkin patch photo. What you don't see is everything it takes to get there: the bounce house, grandkids everywhere, take twelve of the group shot, and Nonna's patience wearing thinner by the minute while she directs the whole production. Throwback Thursday with a twist. We filmed this bathroom today — not the day we finished it, but exactly one year later, during its preventative maintenance visit. The green herringbone, the quartz vanity, the glass surround: all still looking the way they did on handoff day. That's the part that never makes the before-and-after reels, and it's the part that matters most. A remodel should still feel brand new a year in. And five years in. And ten.
