I stood in for Carlos on a trail ride with Matt of Charming Hill Farm along the Shenandoah. Not a bad assignment.

On Matt’s recommendation, I finally stopped at The Amissville Market on the way home. Everything you hope to find in a little country market: delicious things from the bakery, local and Virginia-made goods, a café, and considerably more to explore than you’d guess from the road. Such a friendly welcome, too.

If you’re heading out along 211 toward Sperryville or Skyline Drive, make the stop. I went in for dessert. I’ll be back for the rest.

A night in Richmond celebrating one of my dearest friends, Annabel Wrigley, and her daughter Ruby.

Dopamine brings Annabel’s extraordinary textile art and Ruby’s wonderfully playful knitted forms together for the inaugural exhibition in Hanbury’s new gallery space. So much color, texture and joy, and such a pleasure to see it all in a room full of people.

A little piece of La Racine is there, too: Annabel’s Umbra is on loan from the shop for the exhibition.

Swipe through for the artists, the opening-night atmosphere, a few favorite details and the exhibition poster. The opening reception was October 16; the exhibition continues through December 18 at Hanbury, 1623 West Main Street, Richmond.

I’ve always believed that the most interesting homes don’t feel decorated - they feel collected over time.

When I opened LA RACINE, I wanted to create a place that felt less like a store and more like discovering something unexpected. Every piece has a history, and every object is chosen because I believe it can become part of someone else’s story.

I’m grateful to The Scout Guide Hunt Country for taking the time to tell mine. If you wondered how LA RACINE came to be, what inspires the shop, or where I hope it’s headed next, I’d love for you to read the interview.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this little shop in Marshall. It means more than you know.

After yesterday’s unexpected day by candlelight, the lights are back on, the air conditioning is humming, and the shop is filled with music once again.

We’re spending a quiet afternoon unpacking and enjoying a wonderful collection of newly arrived books.

The library is open.

We invite you to stop in, slow down for a moment, and discover something that deserves a place on your table, your shelf, or your bedside.
