A little throwback to earlier this month at the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck, NY! 🍂

The Kiel James Patrick display was the perfect reminder that a little nostalgia, seasonal color, and plenty of character never go out of style! Kiel James Patrick Kiel James Patrick Country Living

Nothing extra. Nothing missing.

It starts with a twisted iron bed, a floral quilt and an antique bowfront dresser with oval brass pulls under an antique mirror. None of it came as a set, and that’s the point.

Blue-green pinch-pleat curtains edged in cream, wide pine floors and a check armchair tucked under the eaves keep the room calm. A woven basket hamper adds everyday function without losing any charm.

Breathing room is a design element too. 💁🏻‍♀️

When the patterns share a palette, they get along. Here that palette is black, cream and warm wood, so the check on the chairs, the leafy print on the curtains and the spindles of the Windsors all feel like they belong together.

What pulls it all into focus is deep charcoal on the trim and doors. It frames the windows, outlines the French door, and makes the honey-toned floors and tabletop glow in fall light.

My no-fail rule: repeat one color in every print, then vary the scale.

How many patterns do you think is too many? 😉

Pattern lovers, these are for you. 🍂

Handmade from Turkish kilim rugs, these bespoke throw pillows bring together browns, creamy neutrals, terracotta, ochre and earth blues with pops of pattern.

That palette is PERFECT for fall into winter. I love mixing them up and letting the patterns play off each other.

Rule of thumb: when in doubt, add another pillow, right? 😉
