Tree of the month: the sugar maple! 🍁 If you're in the Madison area, you've probably already noticed these trees putting on quite a show right now. Sugar maples are one of the stars of Wisconsin's fall color, turning brilliant shades of orange and red this time of year.

They're also incredibly hardy in our climate and can live for well over 100 years with the right care. If you've got one on your property, a little attention now (mulching, watering, checking for storm damage) helps keep it healthy for seasons to come.

This pest is… emerald ash borer (EAB)! This invasive pest has had a major impact on ash trees across Wisconsin.

As leaves thin out in the fall, it's easier to see canopy dieback, D-shaped exit holes in the bark, and increased woodpecker activity, all signs that EAB may be present.

If you've got ash trees on your property, now is a good time to have them inspected before winter. Early detection makes a real difference in treatment options.
