“I don’t match the energy, I set the standard.”

WHEW 🙌🏻

I was listening to a podcast and they said this, and goodness gracious did it make me think!

How often do we allow the attitudes and actions of other people to determine OUR attitudes and actions?

Someone is rude to us, so we’re rude right back. Someone gives us an attitude, so we give them one right back. Someone doesn’t show us kindness, so we decide they don’t deserve ours either. But y’all…as followers of Jesus, we aren’t called to match the energy around us. We’re called to be DIFFERENT.

Jesus didn’t tell us to love people only when they love us back. He didn’t tell us to be kind only when someone deserves it. And He certainly didn’t tell us to treat others the way they treat us. He told us to love our enemies. To turn the other cheek. To be a LIGHT in this dark world.

And here’s where that good ol’ Jesus slap comes in…🫣

If my kindness depends on someone else’s kindness, am I really reflecting Jesus? Or am I just reflecting the world around me? I don’t want my attitude to be determined by someone else’s bad day. I don’t want my words to be dictated by someone else’s ugly ones. And I sure don’t want to miss an opportunity to show someone Jesus because I was too busy matching their energy.

Now, am I going to get it right every time? Absolutely NOT. 😂 But goodness, I want to try! “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21

So here’s my challenge for us today…Don’t match the energy. Set the standard.

And make sure that standard is JESUS. ❤️

November 1st! 🍂🧡

We’re heading into a season of thankfulness and gratitude and I wanted to share something the Lord has been working out in my heart. Those who know me best know I struggle with the whole “thank you” thing. And by that, I mean it REALLY bothers me when people don’t say thank you. 🙃

It’s something I’ve spent a great deal of time in prayer about because y’all, the Lord has been showing me that sometimes my expectations of others get in the way of the very heart He wants me to have.

Because here’s the thing…

Are we truly giving with a servant’s heart if we’re expecting recognition in return? Are we doing something out of genuine love and kindness, or are we doing it with the expectation that someone will acknowledge what we’ve done?

Now, don’t get me wrong. I still believe saying “thank you” matters. Gratitude is important. Teaching our children to be thankful is important. But someone else’s lack of gratitude shouldn’t determine the condition of MY heart.

OUCH 😅

Jesus didn’t serve others because He wanted a pat on the back. He didn’t love people because He expected something in return. He loved and served because that’s who He is.

And if I’m supposed to be striving to look more like Jesus every single day, shouldn’t I be doing the same? Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

So as we head into November, my prayer isn’t just that the Lord gives me a more thankful heart. It’s that He gives me a heart that serves without expectation, gives without needing recognition, and loves without keeping score.

Because ultimately, I’m not doing it for their thank you. I’m doing it for HIM ❤️ And maybe, just maybe, the person who needs to learn the biggest lesson about gratitude this season is me

In Brayden’s words…

“God’s love is like the sky. It’s big and wide and tall, and it’s my favorite color, blue.” 💙

And just like that, a child explains God’s love more beautifully than most adults ever could.

Big enough to cover us. Wide enough to reach us wherever we are. Tall enough that we could never see the end of it.

Sometimes I think we adults make faith so much more complicated than it needs to be. We search for the perfect words, the perfect explanations, the perfect understanding.

And then a child looks up at the blue sky and sees the love of God.

Lord, may we never lose that childlike wonder. May we look at Your creation and see reminders of just how deeply and endlessly You love us.

“And I pray that you… may have power… to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” — Ephesians 3:17–18 💙

Happy Friday, friends! 🧡🎃

As we head into Halloween weekend, let’s remember that we are called to be a LIGHT in the darkness! ✨

The world can be a dark place, but praise the Lord, we know the One who conquered that darkness!

And what better opportunity to shine His light than a weekend when our neighborhoods are filled with people?! Be kind. Show grace. Love on those kiddos. Smile at your neighbors. Look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus!

Because y’all, darkness doesn’t stand a chance when we let the light of Jesus shine through us! John 1:5 reminds us, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

So this weekend, don’t get so caught up in the darkness that you forget WHO called you to be the light! ❤️

Let’s make Jesus impossible to miss! ✝️

⏰ TIME IS MONEY… OR IS IT?

We’ve all heard the saying, “Time is money.” And somewhere along the way, I think we’ve started living like it’s the truth.

We measure our days by how much we accomplish. How productive we’ve been. How many things we’ve checked off our to-do lists. How much money we’ve made.

But what if we’ve been measuring the value of our time all wrong? What if the most valuable thing you do today doesn’t earn you a single dollar? What if it’s sitting on the floor playing with your kids instead of finishing that last task? What if it’s picking up the phone to check on someone who’s struggling? What if it’s taking an extra 10 minutes to have a conversation with someone who just needs to feel seen, heard, and loved?

What if it’s putting down your phone, closing your laptop, and being PRESENT with the people God has placed in your life?

We spend so much of our lives trying to make a living that sometimes we forget to actually LIVE. And don’t get me wrong. Working hard is important. Providing for our families is important. Being responsible with what God has entrusted to us is important.

But so is being a present parent. A loving spouse. A faithful friend. A servant to others. A light in a world that desperately needs Jesus. The truth is, we can always make another dollar.

But we cannot make another minute.

We can’t buy back the years when our children were little. We can’t purchase another conversation with someone who’s no longer here. We can’t get back the opportunities we missed to love someone, encourage someone, or point someone toward Jesus.

And one day, when our time on this earth is over, I don’t believe anyone will stand at our funeral and talk about how many emails we answered, how much money we made, or how many hours we worked.

They’ll talk about how we made them FEEL. How we loved. How we showed up. How we gave of ourselves. So maybe it’s time we stop asking, “How much is my time worth?” And start asking, “What am I spending my time ON?” Because the greatest return on our investment might not be found in our bank accounts at all. It might be found in the hearts of the people we poured into along the way. ❤️

Time is NOT money. Time is LIFE. And how we spend it is how we spend our lives.

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 (KJV)*

Yesterday, I ran to Walmart to grab a few things for our church’s Fall Festival tonight. And while I was out, I witnessed something that gave me my “Jesus Slap” for the day…

A little old man was driving down the road the WRONG WAY. His wife was yelling, horns were honking, people were throwing their hands up in frustration, and you could just FEEL the anger coming from everyone around him (This was within a parking area, not a main road so it wasn’t that big of a deal).

And all I could think was… where’s the grace?

Why is anger always our first reflex? Why is frustration our immediate response instead of compassion? Now don’t get me wrong, driving the wrong way is dangerous! But what if that little old man was confused? What if he was scared? What if he genuinely didn’t realize what he was doing? What if he needed someone to HELP him instead of everyone making him feel worse?

And boy, didn’t the Lord give me one of His good ol’ Jesus slaps with that thought 😅

Because how often am I guilty of the exact same thing? Someone drives too slowly. Someone makes a mistake. Someone inconveniences me. Someone doesn’t do something the way I think they should.

And instead of extending grace, I get irritated. When did we become so quick to anger and so slow to show grace?

James 1:19 tells us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

Y’all, we have absolutely NO idea what the person beside us is walking through. We don’t know their struggles, their fears, their circumstances, or what kind of day they’ve had.

How often do we ask God to extend grace to US while refusing to extend that same grace to others? We want patience when WE mess up. We want understanding when WE make mistakes. We want forgiveness when WE fall short. But are we offering those same things to the people around us?

Jesus didn’t call us to be the loudest horn honking or the first hand thrown up in frustration. He called us to LOVE people. And sometimes loving people looks like extending grace when it’s the very last thing our flesh wants to do.

So maybe the next time someone makes a mistake, inconveniences us, or does something that makes absolutely no sense to us, we can choose compassion before criticism. Because one day, we might be the confused little old person going the wrong way, desperately needing someone to show us a little grace. ❤️

Lord, help me make grace my first reflex instead of anger. Help me see people through YOUR eyes, not through my own frustration.
