This one was VERY bad—but look at that difference! 👏
Heavy moss and debris had built up across this roof, especially in the shaded back corner and valley. We tackled it using our no-brush cleaning process, clearing away the buildup and getting the roof looking dramatically better.
The cleaning also brought some areas needing attention into view.
Take a look at the last photo. The irregular dark patches and worn areas show thinning or missing granule coverage in the section where the moss was particularly heavy. Those granules protect the asphalt underneath from sunlight and weathering. Cleaning removes the growth, but it can’t restore that lost protection.
This is why you DON’T WAIT on roof moss.
Moss holds moisture against shingles, can grow beneath their edges, and can contribute to granule loss and deterioration. Thick growth and accumulated debris can also interfere with water shedding properly.
We recommended keeping a close eye on that back section and staying on top of moss prevention over the next couple of years. The worn areas deserve a roofing professional’s assessment, too—there’s no need to wait until fiberglass becomes visible to find out whether shingles need replacing.
We’re proud of the improvement we made for this homeowner. The roof is now clear of the heavy buildup, and the areas needing further attention are much easier to see and monitor.
Taking care of moss early can help prevent a cleaning job from becoming a repair job.
