Outdoor countertops live a hard life. Sun beating down all day, constant temperature swings, moisture everywhere. I love quartz, and we're actually using it inside the houseboat (more on that in a future post!). Most standard quartz isn't built to handle that kind of outdoor exposure, though newer outdoor-rated quartz products, like Caesarstone's Solaris collection, have come out in recent years using UV-resistant resin made specifically for exterior use.
We looked into those newer options, but for the outdoor bar, I wanted something with a long, proven track record of standing up to sun, moisture, and time. Granite has been used outdoors for generations, and for good reason. It handles heat and UV exposure beautifully, and once sealed, resists moisture and staining even in a tough marine environment. For us, nothing beats that kind of proven durability.
We ended up choosing a gorgeous light color granite from Pacific Stone, and we're so grateful for their expertise in helping us find the right fit for this space.
The installation itself was a whole story on its own. Alpha Countertops manufactured and installed the piece, and the radius on this countertop turned out to be one of the trickiest cuts they've tackled. It took a couple of attempts to get it exactly right, but their patience and skillset through the process really showed in the final result.
We're so happy with how the bar area came together, and we can't wait to share more of the houseboat build as it comes to life. 🚤✨
