Catalyst Architects, LLC Catalyst Architects is a hands-on residential practice in South Carolina. The team is led by its founder, D. Stallworth, AIA.

We share a passion for collaborating with families to create unique, enduring places which bring generations together. Since 1988, Catalyst Architects has been guiding clients through a hands-on process to design homes that bring generations together. This award winning team begins the creative process by carefully listening to each client’s dreams and ideas, and then preparing several freehand concepts for their review and critique. While the design concepts are inspired by each client’s values and experiences, they are also shaped by the characteristics of their unique physical context including views, topography, vegetation, sun angles, and climate. As architects, the team members of Catalyst share a passion for design, but they also greatly value craft. Therefore, in addition to producing a comprehensive set of construction documents for each project (which includes all necessary drawings ranging from structural design, to flashing details, to interior trim profiles), Catalyst remains involved through bidding or negotiating and through the duration of construction. This service is of tremendous value to clients, as it brings continuity to both the process and the product. Through weekly site visits Catalyst is able to assist with reviewing applications for payment, monitoring quality control, and guiding homeowners in decision making which can at times be overwhelming. Wayne Rogers, FAIA, LEED AP and fellow principal, Heather B. Heather and Wayne are both involved in each project from its inception to successful completion. The team has the distinction of including three generations of Rogers, as Wayne’s father, Colonel O. Rogers, Jr., AIA (structural guru) and son, C. Brandon Rogers, AIA (architect), both play key roles in the practice. Through the years, Catalyst’s work has received many design awards and has been featured in publications. However, the true measure of the firm’s success, is the long list of clients who have become friends, and who are experiencing meaningful family time in great houses which will endure through future generations.

The secret to this room is the way light, geometry, and materials work together. By angling the dramatic ceiling and placing clerestory windows high near the roofline, soft natural light washes over the space throughout the day. The open loft above and uninterrupted flow into the kitchen keep sightlines connected and family gatherings effortless. The soft plaster textures on the fireplace and warm hardwood underfoot ground all that soaring height, making the room feel remarkably inviting.

Lake living takes on a different pace in the fall. Copper rooflines, covered walkways and expansive outdoor spaces frame a residence designed for gathering in every season. As the air cools and the light shifts, the lake becomes the backdrop for a slower, more intentional way of living.

We design to make the most of light throughout the day. Tiered terraces and open-air decks create multiple places to gather, relax and enjoy the view, while clean lines and carefully considered proportions define the architecture. Outdoor living, thoughtfully designed from one level to the next.

A well-designed staircase should do far more than just connect two floors—it serves as the architectural spine of the entire home. In this multi-story stairwell, we intentionally paired crisp, classic white millwork with rich hardwood top rails to ground the expansive vertical space with warmth and tactile detail.

From the ground floor looking up, the geometric symmetry and vaulted ceiling details draw your eye directly toward the sky, anchored by a understated chandelier. Turn around at the landing, and double-height windows frame panoramic natural views while flooding every level with soft daylight. It’s a seamless blend of spatial drama and everyday serenity.

It's the end of Kitchen Week at Catalyst. Each day we've shared one of our favorites. Which one was yours this week?

Rich walnut extends from the flooring to the ceiling, creating continuity between the kitchen and outdoor terrace. A marble waterfall island and brushed brass accents add definition to the clean, light-filled space, while floor-to-ceiling glass doors open the kitchen to the landscape.

Even the smallest details are considered. Geometric brass pendants echo the brass inlay of the custom plaster range hood, carrying the material palette throughout the space.

It's Kitchen Week at Catalyst. Each day we are sharing one of our favorites. Which one is yours?

A kitchen designed around the way you live, gather, and take in the view. This kitchen paired warm oak flooring with a custom timber-clad island and crisp white cabinetry. Woven lanterns add texture overhead, while the open layout keeps the coastal landscape in view from every angle.

It's Kitchen Week at Catalyst. Each day we are sharing one of our favorites. Which one is yours?

The bold veining of the marble island sets the tone, balanced by warm wood, steel-framed windows and custom metal detailing. The hood and open shelving create a strong architectural focal point, while carefully repeated metal elements bring cohesion to the space.
