IS MY ARIENS SNOW BLOWER REPAIR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY?
With cold weather approaching, I wanted to share some info regarding Ariens snow blowers and warranty repairs.
Many of you may be getting prepped for winter and discover that your new(ish) snow blower won’t start and/or run.
Maybe you just purchased the snow blower earlier this year when the January storm came through and used it no problem during the storm. Or you bought it the previous winter, used it for a year with no problem but suddenly it won’t run this year.
You think “well, it’s under warranty, so no repair bill, right?”
Please don’t be shocked if that answer is: NO
This may come as bad news but in many cases, there’s a good chance that NO, your repair is NOT covered under warranty. If you bought your snow blower from us, we explain the warranty policy but maybe you forgot, so please read on for a refresher. If you bought from a chain/big-box store or online, you may have no idea what the warranty policy is, so here’s how it works:
Every repair done at Hillside generates a bill comprised of parts & labor. If Ryan must work on a machine to make it run, drive and/or blow snow the way it should, there will be a bill owed to Hillside for his labor, the parts used and pickup & delivery (if applicable)
Who is responsible for paying that bill, whether it’s Ariens or you, the customer, depends on what failed on the machine.
Warranty covers manufacturer defects on the machine. That’s it. It covers the parts and labor when something is defective and breaks during normal usage. We get the parts, Ryan does the work, Ariens pays Hillside, you get your snow blower fixed for free and everybody is happy!
Now, here’s the part nobody usually wants to hear from me: depending on what’s wrong with the snow blower, NO, it may not be covered under warranty.
Here are some examples of commonly seen snow blower issues that are NOT covered under warranty:
*Your snow blower sat with gas in the tank & fuel system for months/all summer & it won’t start or run
*You purchased it online or from a box store & assembled it yourself & it won’t run
*You hit something last winter and the auger and/or impeller won’t turn (hit firewood pile, Christmas lights, rocks, etc.)
*You bought it from a box store, did not check to make sure there was oil in the engine, and blew up the engine from running it with no oil
*You stored your snow blower in your shed, and mice chewed up the wires and/or built a nest in the drive system & it won’t run and/or drive.
These examples are not manufacturer defects and will not be covered under your warranty. There are more examples, but these are some of the more common issues that we see with snow blowers coming into the shop.
Speaking of things not covered, let’s talk about pickup & delivery. Pickup and delivery is NOT covered under warranty by Ariens in ANY case. Pickup & delivery is a service offered by Hillside for a fee. If your repair is, in fact, covered under Ariens’ warranty policy, you will still owe Hillside the pickup/delivery fee. Of course, this fee can be avoided by bringing the machine to our shop.
We hope this post explains how warranties work, and clears up some confusion about what is covered & what is probably not covered
