Desert season is almost here ☀, which means a lot of trailers loaded with quads, side-by-sides, and far tooo many snacks are about to head out of town. Each year somebody gets to the desert and realizes the trailer key is sitting on the kitchen counter back home, or the key gets lost somewhere between the campsite and the sand. I have run TNT Locksmith out of Lakeside for about 4 years now, and one thing that stands out to me is that our community shows up for each other. 💪🏼

Has your car key been made since the late 1990s? There is a small chip inside it that has to be programmed to your car. A copy from the hardware store can turn in the lock and still not start the engine.

Did You Know?

Many commercial buildings still use lock hardware systems that can't be rekeyed without replacing hardware entirely. Rekeying your locks lets you change who has access after an employee leaves, without swapping the whole lock.

If you've ever had an employee turnover and never touched the locks, that is a gap in your building's security.

Locksmith Tip of the Day

If your key is sticking or hard to turn in the lock, don't force it and don't spray WD-40 into the cylinder. WD-40 attracts dust and grime over time and can actually make the lock stickier down the road. Use a silicone-based lock lubricant instead, a few sprays into the keyway usually solves it.
