Hardwood flooring comes in two types:

-solid hardwood and engineered hardwood. Both are real wood floors—the difference is how the planks are constructed.

Engineered hardwood is real hardwood flooring, but it’s built differently from solid hardwood.

* Solid hardwood: Each plank is one solid piece of wood. It can usually be sanded and refinished multiple times.
* Engineered hardwood: Each plank has a real hardwood surface over layers of plywood or another wood core. It handles humidity changes better, and whether it can be refinished depends on the thickness of the hardwood surface.

Both give you the beauty and feel of real wood. Engineered hardwood is different from laminate and luxury vinyl, which use a printed wood design.

Luxury vinyl is a practical, budget-friendly option, but there’s something special about real hardwood. The natural warmth, texture, and comfortable feel under your feet bring a richness to your home that’s hard to duplicate.

Hardwood costs more upfront, but its timeless beauty and lasting appeal can also add to your home’s resale value. You’re investing in floors you’ll enjoy every day—and for many homeowners, that makes it worth the extra cost.

Why quarter round is often installed

LVP is a floating floor, meaning it needs a small expansion gap (usually about 1/4 inch) along the walls. Quarter round is installed to cover that gap.

Installers use it because it:
•Hides the expansion gap
•Is quicker than removing and reinstalling baseboards
•Protects the edge of the flooring

When you DON’T need quarter round

Quarter round can be avoided if:
1.Baseboards are removed first
The flooring is installed, leaving the expansion gap, and the baseboards are reinstalled to cover the gap.
2. You install new baseboards after flooring
3.Your existing baseboards already cover the gap

This method usually looks cleaner and more modern because you only see the baseboard.

When quarter round is recommended

Quarter round is usually the best option when:
•You don’t want to remove baseboards
•The existing baseboards are thin
•You need a quick install
•The gap is larger than expected

Floors are one of the biggest design features in a home, and they can completely change how a space feels and looks.

The color, plank size, texture, and layout direction all impact the appearance of the room.

• Light floors can make a home feel bigger, brighter, and more open
• Dark floors can create a warmer, richer, more dramatic look
• Wide planks often make spaces feel larger and more modern
• Mixing too many different floors can make a home feel smaller or disconnected
• Consistent flooring throughout the home creates better flow and a cleaner appearance
• Warm-toned floors make spaces feel more inviting and cozy
• The direction the flooring is installed can even change how large or long a room appears

A floor isn’t just something you walk on — it sets the entire tone of the home.

Have you guessed which floor?

🎋 BAMBOO FLOORING 🎋

Why You Should Avoid Bamboo Flooring:

• Scratches Easily: Not as durable as hardwood; dents and scratches are common. Especially the cheaper varieties. High heels, pet claws, and heavy furniture can damage it easily.

• Moisture Issues: Warps or swells in humid or wet areas. These floors are very delicate when it comes to water! They LOVE moisture!

• Toxic Glues: Cheaper versions may emit harmful VOCs like formaldehyde. Some bamboo flooring, especially lower-cost options from overseas, is manufactured using urea-formaldehyde glues, which can emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds) into your home’s air.

• Not Always Eco-Friendly: Some are harvested or produced unsustainably.

• Inconsistent Quality: Big differences between cheap and premium options.

• Hard to Repair/Refinish: Especially strand-woven types.

• Can Be Noisy: Without proper underlayment. Bamboo can sound hollow or loud when walked on, especially if not installed correctly or without sound-absorbing underlayment.

🎋Bamboo can look great, but it’s not ideal for high-traffic, humid, or pet-heavy homes unless you buy high-quality, certified products.

“Warm floors are better than gray”

is likely referring to the aesthetic and sensory appeal of warm-toned flooring compared to cooler gray tones.

Warm-toned floors, such as those with natural wood finishes, can create a cozy, inviting atmosphere in a room. They tend to complement a wide range of interior styles and colors, making spaces feel more welcoming and comfortable.

In contrast, gray floors, while modern and sleek, can sometimes give a space a more sterile or cold feeling.

The choice between warm and gray floors ultimately depends on personal preference and the desired ambiance of the space.

Warm floors bring value to your home and homes sell faster with warm floors compared to gray floors.

The thickness of luxury vinyl flooring matters for both performance and comfort.

1. Durability & Wear Layer
• The overall thickness (measured in millimeters) affects how sturdy the floor feels underfoot and how well it holds up in high-traffic areas.
• A thicker plank usually comes with a thicker wear layer, which adds better resistance to scratches, dents, and daily wear.
• Thinner planks (like 2–4 mm) are fine for low-traffic spaces, while thicker options (5–8 mm+) are better for busy households with kids and pets.

2. Stability & Sound
• Thicker vinyl is more rigid and can hide minor imperfections in the subfloor better than thin vinyl.
• It tends to reduce noise, feeling more like real hardwood underfoot.
• A thin floor can sound hollow or “clicky,” especially if installed over uneven surfaces.

3. Comfort Underfoot
• A thicker core provides a softer, more cushioned feel when walking.
• This matters in kitchens, living rooms, or any space where you’re standing for long periods.

4. Resale & Perception of Quality
• Many homeowners and buyers associate thicker vinyl with higher quality.
• A 6–8 mm plank with a 20 mil wear layer looks and feels more premium than a thin 3 mm product.

âś… Rule of thumb:
• 4 mm with 12 mil wear layer → Good for apartments, low traffic.
• 5–6 mm with 12–20 mil wear layer → Standard choice for most homes.
• 7–8 mm with 20+ mil wear layer → Best for high traffic, kids, and pets.

WPC flooring has a softer, foamed core that provides comfort and sound absorption. Because it has more flexibility, some WPC products may be more likely to dent, chip, or crack under a strong impact.

SPC flooring has a dense, stone-based core, making it more rigid and resistant to impact.

This doesn’t mean all WPC flooring is poor quality—there are many good-quality WPC products. The main difference is that WPC focuses more on comfort, while SPC focuses more on strength and durability. Quality also varies by brand and construction.
