Follow these quick tips to keep your fiberglass door in great shape. ⬇️

🫧 Cleaning: All you need is a mild dish soap and warm water solution applied with a soft cloth or sponge.

❌ Don’t use: oil-based conditioners, heavy-duty degreasers, or pressure washing. These can damage the protective topcoat finish.

☀️ The sun and UV rays break down the topcoat over time. Apply a UV-protective paste wax or an automotive-style polymer sealant 1x/year.

🌧️ Regularly check the weatherstripping and hardware to extend the life of your door and improve your home’s energy performance.

🚪 If your fiberglass door is visibly faded, chalky to the touch, or peeling around the edges… it’s time to refinish or replace! Usually a surface treatment goes a long way to making your door shine again.

Can you install your own front door? What to know before DIY ⬇️

First, it depends on the door. Are you replacing a standard prehung door with the same size? Do you have very sound construction around the opening? If not, then default to a professional.

If your project involves structural changes, a new door size, complicated trim or cladding, or an uneven threshold, this may also be a case for a professional install.

It also depends on your own experience. If you have carpentry or home improvement experience, then you may be more cut out for the DIY job.
