I'm sure we've ALL had the uncomfortable sleeper sofa experience, right? The one where you can feel every single bar of the frame through the mattress. Not exactly a great night's sleep.

And especially in NYC, where every square foot matters, I always thought this was such an obvious problem to solve. Why can't a sleeper sofa be just as comfortable AND beautiful as a regular sofa?

So we sourced one that I can genuinely say is SO comfortable. And the best part? It's beautiful both ways. As a sofa AND as a bed. Because you really shouldn't have to compromise on either.

Remember when people thought wallpaper was dated? Funny how that changes. Lol.

I've ALWAYS loved wallpaper. And I think if you fall in love with a pattern, there's probably a reason. Not everything in your home needs to be the safe choice.

And BTW, order a sample. ALWAYS. Wallpaper looks completely different on a screen than it does in your room.

I think rugs are WAY more important than most people realize. They have this amazing way of pulling a room together, sometimes in the most unexpected ways.

They can pick up colors from the walls, the upholstery, the art… all these things you’ve already chosen and somehow make everything work together.

It’s subtle, but it makes SUCH a difference.
And BTW, PLEASE make sure your rug is big enough.

I LOVE game tables of any kind (as long as they’re well made, of course). And I’ve been seeing them EVERYWHERE at High Point Market.

I just love the idea of having a place in your home that actually gets people to sit down and do something together. Cards, mahjong, puzzles, whatever it is. And obviously, the table should be beautiful too. Lol.

Did you know so much goes into monogramming? The size of the letters, how different fonts look once they're stitched, the thread colors, the cartouches… I mean, we have thought about EVERYTHING.

And I really wanted this to be more than just putting your initials on something. You can make it subtle and tonal or a little more of a statement. And especially on furniture… a beautiful monogram on the back of a chair? SO good. Something you can pass down.

I am SO excited to finally open our Monogram Shop!

You can be REALLY good at what you do and still have people not quite understand who you are, what makes you different, or why they should remember you.

I learned this while building Kathy Kuo Home. Being a designer and building a brand around that design point of view are two very different things. And the second part does not just magically happen because the work is good. I wish it did.

So at High Point Market, I’m sitting down with luxury brand strategist Rachael Johanson to get really practical about it. How do you position yourself? Where should you actually be showing up? What are you spending time on that probably isn’t doing anything for your business? And how do you take really great work and build something around it that people actually remember?

Because at some point, you have to stop trying to do EVERYTHING and get really clear about what matters.

If you’ve built the business and you’re trying to figure out how to build the brand around it, come join us.

Find us at IHFC, IH301, Commerce Floor 1. Seating is limited, so RSVP soon.

I ALWAYS wanted bunk beds growing up. And then my kids had them when they were little, and STILL every time I see a bunk room, I think… I NEED this again.

I'm already imagining one in a future vacation home. Family, friends, cousins, pets, whoever else wants to come along. Lol. I love the idea of having a room where everyone can pile in.

And these little curtained bunks?? SO cute.

I’ve been in this industry for a long time, and it has changed SO much. How designers get discovered, how you build a name for yourself, what actually gets someone’s attention… even what it means to have a successful design business looks different than it did five or ten years ago.

And I hear the same questions all the time. Does getting published still matter? How DO you get published? What gets a designer noticed today? Where is all of this actually going?

So rather than pretend I have every answer, I invited two people who spend their careers paying very, very close attention to exactly this.
I’ll be sitting down with ELLE DECOR’s Elisa Lipsky-Karasz and Business of Home’s Dennis Scully at High Point Market for what I hope will be a really candid conversation about where the design industry is right now… and where we think it’s headed next.

No filter. That’s literally the point.

And because it’s a morning conversation, we’ll have a light brunch afterward. Come hungry AND curious.

Find us at IHFC, IH301, Commerce Floor 1. Seating is limited, so RSVP soon.

No Filter: Where Is the Design Industry Actually Going?

I’m sitting down with Elle Decor’s Elisa Lipsky-Karasz and Business of Home’s Dennis Scully to talk about what’s changing, what’s working, and what nobody’s saying out loud.

Saturday, October 17 at 9 AM at IHFC, IH301.

Save this for Market and send it to a friend who needs to be in the room. See you there!

Seating is limited, so RSVP soon: https://kathy-kuo-home.visitlink.me/JxA-Fx

There are only so many clients you can take on. I know that sounds obvious, but when you’re building a design business and you’re IN it… working with clients, managing projects, doing the actual design work… at some point you have to ask, okay, what’s next?

I’ve asked myself some version of that question so many times over the years. Kathy Kuo Home started in in my basement (yes, really) and has grown into e-commerce, interior design, logistics, and honestly, things I never would have predicted when I started.

So I’m VERY excited to sit down with Swan Sit at High Point Market and talk about what growth actually looks like beyond just taking on another project. Swan has led digital marketing at Nike and Estée Lauder, built an incredible personal brand of her own, and has such an interesting perspective on where all of this is going.

We’re talking digital, AI, personal branding, how you build something that can actually scale… the things I think so many designers are trying to figure out right now.

And then, happy hour. Because obviously. Lol.

Join us at IHFC, IH301, Commerce Floor 1. Seating is limited, so RSVP soon. I’d love to see you there.
