The prettiest landscaping in the world won't matter much if the water has nowhere to go. 👀💧

One of the important pieces of our Hastings College project was incorporating a drainage basin to help manage stormwater runoff.

On a large commercial property, drainage isn't something you can just cross your fingers and hope works out.

Properly designed drainage helps reduce standing water, limit erosion, and protect surrounding landscape features.

And with thoughtful grading, plantings, and natural-looking materials, a necessary drainage feature can complement the property instead of distracting from it.

That's what we love about commercial landscaping. It's not just about making a space look good on day one.

It's about creating something that works for years to come. 🌿👏

Let's talk about the least glamorous part of landscaping… DRAINAGE. 😂💦

At Hastings College, we incorporated a drainage basin into the landscape design, and no, the goal wasn't to create a giant hole in the ground.

The goal was to manage stormwater while keeping the surrounding space attractive and functional.

Thoughtful grading, natural contours, stone, and strategically placed plantings can help soften the appearance of a drainage area and make it feel like part of the landscape rather than an afterthought.

Because even the most practical features deserve a little design attention.

Functional? Absolutely. An eyesore? Doesn't have to be. 😉🌿

Not every part of a landscape project is meant to be pretty… but that doesn't mean it can't be. 👀🌿

At our Hastings College project, adding a drainage basin was an important part of making sure the landscape worked just as well as it looked.

Why? Because stormwater needs somewhere to go. Without proper drainage, water can collect, cause erosion, and create problems for the surrounding landscape.

But here's where thoughtful landscaping comes in. By incorporating the basin into the overall design, we can help it blend into the space instead of becoming an eyesore.

We're not landscaping for the grand opening photo. 👏

We're landscaping for the thousands of footsteps that come AFTER it.

Our large-scale project at Hastings College's newest dormitory was designed with the bigger picture in mind.

Green space students can enjoy. Landscaping that complements the architecture. An outdoor environment that feels connected to the rest of campus.

And most importantly? A space designed to grow and serve students for years to come.

That's the difference between simply making a property look finished and creating something with purpose.

From construction site to campus life. 👀🌱

One of our favorite parts of a large commercial project? Watching the landscaping completely change how a new building feels.

At Hastings College, we took the outdoor areas surrounding their newest dormitory and worked to create something that felt connected, welcoming, and intentional.

The building was new. The landscaping needed to make it feel like part of the campus.

And THAT is why the exterior matters just as much as the building itself.
