Thoughtful design means creating a home that belongs in its surroundings while still having its own identity.

At our Off-Grid Canyon Residence, earthy stucco tones and industrial metal accents work together to complement the natural landscape without disappearing into it.

But this home's design goes beyond its appearance. With solar power, a private well, and propane, it's equipped for fully off-grid living.
Every detail serves a purpose, from the materials you see to the systems you don't.

Follow along for more behind-the-scenes looks at our custom homes!

At our Off-Grid Canyon Residence, we’ve brought the beauty of the surrounding landscape indoors through natural textures, warm colors, and thoughtful design choices.

From slate tile and natural lighting to carefully selected finishes, every element works together to create a bathroom that feels both luxurious and inviting.

Beautiful design doesn't have to be complicated!

A great floor plan starts long before the first walls are drawn.

At RG Cowan Design Build, we believe your home should be designed around the way you live, not the other way around.

Before putting pen to paper, we take the time to understand your lifestyle, your priorities, and the land your home will sit on. From natural light and surrounding views to how you cook, work, entertain, and relax, every detail plays a role in the design.

Open concept or traditional? Dedicated hobby spaces? Room to grow? These decisions should be intentional, functional, and uniquely yours.

Through conversations, sketches, collaboration, and refinement, we turn those ideas into a thoughtful floor plan that feels right for you
Great design isn't just about how a home looks. It's about how it lives.

Sometimes the smallest architectural details make the biggest difference.

At our Off Grid Canyon Residence, Hannah walks us through one of the home's unique features.

By allowing the drywall to return directly into the door jamb, we create a clean, seamless transition that draws attention to the shape of the door itself.

It's a subtle design decision, but one that adds character, softness, and a distinctly modern feel to the space.

Thoughtful details like these are what make a custom home truly unique.

When square footage is limited, every design decision matters! 🔥

At our Off-Grid Canyon Residence, we wanted to create a fireplace area that felt cozy and inviting without sacrificing valuable living space.

By incorporating an elbow into the chimney, we were able to position the fireplace further back, maximizing the functionality of the great room.
We also designed a custom steel floor feature that serves multiple purposes: protecting the flooring, meeting code requirements, and adding a unique artistic element to the space.

It's a great example of how thoughtful design can bring function, safety, and aesthetics together, even in smaller homes.

Winter comfort starts long before you turn up the thermostat. 🏡❄️

A Toward Net Zero home is designed to work smarter through the colder months with better insulation, tighter air sealing, high-performance windows, and a building envelope designed to hold onto the heat you’re already producing.

The result? More consistent temperatures, fewer cold spots, lower energy demand, and a home that simply feels more comfortable all winter.

That’s what thoughtful, high-performance design can do.

Some of the best features in a home are the ones you barely notice… until you try experience it yourelf.

Meet the Kitchen Trifecta: trash, sink, and dishwasher all positioned next to each other. Scrape, rinse, load. No walking across the kitchen, dripping dishes, or awkward cleanup routine.

It’s a simple design decision that makes everyday life easier, and exactly the kind of detail we think through when designing a home around the people who live in it.
