**A More Finished Home for the Holidays**

Sometimes finishing a room isn’t about starting over. It’s about making the right final decisions.

For this kitchen, the major elements were already in place. The design direction focused on bringing everything together—the seating, finishes, textures, accessories, and styling details that give the room a more cohesive and intentional feel.

That same idea is at the heart of my **Room Refresh** service.

If you have a living room, dining room, guest room, or other space that feels *almost* finished, there’s still time to give it some thoughtful attention before December gatherings begin.

Focused virtual design for rooms that need finishing—not starting over.

A room can be fully furnished and still feel unfinished.

Sometimes it isn’t about buying more—it’s about getting the layout, scale, lighting, color, and final layers to work together.

In my newest Journal story, How to Make a Room Feel Finished Before the Holidays, I’m sharing the details I look at when a room feels almost right, but not quite complete.

We’ll look at:
• furniture placement and flow
• lighting and scale
• repeating color and materials
• finishing layers that add warmth without clutter
• which rooms are worth prioritizing before holiday guests arrive

I’ve also included a curated Finishing Layers collection for anyone who wants to make a few thoughtful updates on their own.

Why does a room still feel unfinished when the furniture is already there?

Often, it isn’t because you need to start over.

It may be the scale of the rug.
The lighting.
The way the furniture is arranged.
Missing art or textiles.
Or simply that the pieces in the room aren’t quite working together yet.

Those final layers are often what turn a furnished room into a space that feels intentional, comfortable, and complete.

That’s what my Room Refresh service is designed to help with.

Focused virtual design for rooms that need finishing—not starting over.

If there’s a room in your home that feels almost there, I’d love to help you bring it together.

There are some mornings that ask nothing of us except to slow down.

No rushing out the door. No checking the clock. Just coffee brewing, something simple on the table, and a little more time to enjoy being home.

My newest Journal story, The Slow Sunday Breakfast, is about creating space for those kinds of mornings—and why the rooms we design matter most when they support the way we actually want to live.

I’m also sharing a simple Sunday breakfast board, an Olive Oil Lemon Breakfast Cake, and a few thoughtfully selected pieces for the table.

Because sometimes living well is simply deciding that an ordinary Sunday morning is worth enjoying.

There’s something about the change of season that makes us look at our homes a little differently.

But a fall refresh doesn’t have to mean pumpkins, seasonal décor, or a complete reset.

In my newest Journal story, The Earthy Sitting Room: A Fall Refresh, I’m sharing how a few thoughtful changes—warmer textures, softer lighting, deeper tones, and pieces with character—can make a room feel more inviting for the season ahead.

Because thoughtful design starts with how you live.

✨ **Journal Issue 002 is now live.**

Have you ever bought something beautiful for your home…only to realize later that it didn't quite work?

Maybe it was the perfect chair, a gorgeous rug, or artwork you loved—but somehow the room still didn't feel finished.

The problem usually isn't the piece.

It's decorating **without a plan**.

In this week's Journal, I'm sharing why so many homeowners spend more than they need to, end up frustrated with their spaces, and how taking a step back before making your next purchase can save you time, money, and disappointment.

Over the past year, something interesting happened.

As I've spent some time now living between Arizona and Northern Portugal, my perspective on home has quietly changed.

I still love beautiful interiors, thoughtful details, and timeless design. But I've realized that the homes we remember most aren't the ones that are perfectly decorated—they're the ones where life is well lived.

They're the homes where family gathers around the table, where coffee tastes a little better in the morning light, where the windows are open on a beautiful day, and where everyday moments become lasting memories.

That realization inspired something new.

Today I'm sharing the very first article in the Evelyn K Design Journal and introducing Design Notes, a new way for me to share ideas, inspiration, and stories about creating a home that supports the life you want to live.

While design will always be at the heart of what I do, this journey is about much more than interiors. In the months ahead, I'll be sharing thoughtful design ideas alongside inspiration from nature, seasonal living, entertaining, European discoveries, favorite products, and the simple rituals that make a house feel like home.

I hope you'll join me for this next chapter.

The first Journal article is now live on my website.
You'll find it in the Journal at EvelynKDesign.com.

I'd love to hear from you...

Have you ever looked around your home and felt like something was missing... even though you've purchased beautiful furniture and decor?

You're not alone.

One of the most common things I hear from homeowners is:

*"I can't put my finger on it, but my home just doesn't feel right."*

The good news? It usually isn't because you've made bad choices or need to start over.

More often, the issue is how all of the elements in a room are working together—or not working together.

In my newest journal article, I share some of the most common reasons a home can feel "off" and the simple design principles that can help create a more cohesive, comfortable space.
The elements in a room work together—or not
