Your pumpkins have one more job before winter!

Once the last trick-or-treater has gone home and your jack-o’-lanterns have glowed their final glow, it might be time to say goodbye to your fall decorations.

But don’t toss them just yet! Our animals at Glean for Good Farm would LOVE to help you clean up!

From November 1–15, drop off your pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, and cornstalks at the Glean for Good trailer in Lot C at Sioux Falls Christian Schools.

Thank you for helping us turn yesterday’s decorations into tomorrow’s farm treats!

A little horn maintenance for our ram! 🐏 His horns were curling toward his eyes, putting him at risk of injury. Our vet used a wire saw to trim back the tips. Minor bleeding was controlled with medicated powder, and Dr. Jason Johnson from Rock Veterinary Clinic assured us the procedure was painless. All part of keeping him safe and healthy!

🍅 Around our house, we call this “GOODIE!” 🍅

This family favorite is the perfect way to use up the last of those garden-fresh tomatoes, peppers, celery, and onions!

Most people know it as goulash, but in our family, it’s always been “Goodie.” ❤️

The name goes back to when my dad and his siblings were little. Whenever they asked what was for dinner and heard that goulash was on the menu, they’d shout, “GOODIE!” And the name stuck.

It’s simple, hearty, delicious, and even better as leftovers. Plus, it’s a great way to turn the last of the garden harvest into several easy meals.

🌱 No garden? No problem! Check out Dakota Fresh Food Hub for fresh, locally grown ingredients to make your own batch.

What is one meal from your childhood that still tastes like home?

👇 Here’s how we make our family’s “Goodie”!

🍅 GOODIE (or Spanish Rice)

Ingredients:

* 1–4 lbs ground beef or turkey
* 2–4 green peppers, chopped
* 2–4 onions, chopped
* Celery, chopped
* Minced garlic, to taste
* 1–5 cans stewed or diced tomatoes (depending on how much meat you use)
* Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

1. Brown the ground beef or turkey with the peppers, onions, celery, and garlic.
2. Once the meat is cooked, add the stewed or diced tomatoes.
3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

For Goodie (Goulash):

Cook 1–3 cups of elbow macaroni (depending on the amount of meat), slightly undercooking the pasta so it holds its shape. Drain and stir into the meat, vegetable, and tomato mixture.

Top with Parmesan cheese or a splash of Tabasco sauce!

For Spanish Rice:

Instead of macaroni, add 1–2 cups of brown rice and 2–4 cups of water, adjusting the water to the amount of rice. Simmer until the rice is tender.

Top with Parmesan cheese or Tabasco sauce.

❤️ One family recipe, two delicious ways to enjoy it!

I am so proud how SDPB captured Glean for Good’s vision: That those with abundance would have no extra, and those with little would have enough. We’ve never known exactly how to make this vision possible, but YOU have provided us ample ways to connect, serve and provide for one another.

What is your favorite experience with us? And how has Glean inspired you to look for extras, connect with the community and receive from others?

The lunch rush looks a little different around here!

One week’s worth of food scraps from Sioux Falls Christian Schools = one very happy bunch of farm animals!

A HUGE thank-you to Sioux Falls Christian Schools for always helping us turn scraps into something good!
