We’re going to reuse brick from the house on the outside of this bathroom addition in Frisco. We’ll pair it with new matching brick to help the addition blend with the home’s existing exterior.

Right now, we’re getting the work below the concrete ready. The new bathroom drains are connected to the existing drains at the front of the house, and the water line has passed inspection. Next come the rebar and forms, followed by another inspection before we pour concrete and start building the room.

Inside, a dividing wall will separate the bathroom from storage, with its own access door.

The concrete beneath this old flagstone pool deck in Willow Bend, Plano, was still sound and free of cracks. That meant we could keep the existing base and apply a Limecoat overlay after removing the flagstone and replacing the thick pool coping with a thinner profile.

We used a Versailles-style pattern and pulled the overlay colors from the new coping and existing Oklahoma stone border. That ties the deck into the stonework already in the yard.

Around the spa, we extended that stone border to create more planting space and poured a small concrete seating area before applying the overlay. There’s now room for a small table and four chairs, with beds set aside for flowers, bushes, and trees.

This homeowner thought of everything. They requested that we add a layer of foam beneath the artificial turf under their backyard playset. The extra padding is there to help cushion falls, giving their kids a softer surface when they take a tumble.

This backyard remodel had a ton of features, from an outdoor kitchen to a pool to a playground. And under the playground, the turf is what you see, but the padding you can't see is an even bigger part of making this space work for the lucky kids who’ll use it.

We’re using two 4-inch concrete blocks instead of one 8-inch block to build the base for this stone veneer outdoor kitchen in Plano. That gives us options where we need more room for an appliance.

We’re laying out space for a kegerator, grill, sink, and prep station. Getting those openings right now means each piece has its place as the kitchen comes together.

Access is part of that layout, too. An opening under the sink will let you reach the plumbing if you need to shut off the water or adjust the drain. Below the grill, a door-and-drawer combo will provide access on one side and storage on the other.

The Twin Eagles grill in this Dallas outdoor kitchen has a griddle insert you can swap in for smash burgers or sautéed veggies. It gives you another way to cook without needing a separate griddle.

The rest of the setup gives you a few more options: an infrared burner for searing, briquettes on the other side, and a built-in rotisserie. A double side burner beside the grill lets you work on side dishes while the main dish cooks. The nice thing is being able to handle both in the same space.

Behind the cooking area, we used painted, offset bricks to create a screen wall. That brick pattern is a detail we really like on this one.

The undermount sink in this Preston Hollow outdoor kitchen lets you wipe the countertop straight into the basin without catching crumbs on a raised sink rim. It’s a small detail, but it makes cleanup easier.

That same attention to everyday use carries through the peninsula. There’s a refrigerator below, a slide-out trash can, and an access door so you can reach the water shut-offs and drain connections when needed.

For the finishes, we paired fluted natural marble tile with a Dekton Bromo slab countertop. The marble brings texture to the kitchen, while the countertop provides a durable surface suited for outdoor use. This kitchen is part of our Randy Angel Designs project in Dallas.

We used SkyLift hardware to build this covered patio in Preston Hollow without putting posts on the existing patio. That keeps the patio area open and lets us work with the home’s existing gutter.

For the cover itself, we installed a standing seam metal roof with Hardie material on the underside. The nice thing about this setup is that we could add overhead coverage while keeping posts out of the space below.

We cut out the flagstone where this outdoor kitchen in Plano would sit to check the thickness of the concrete underneath. Before building on it, we needed to know whether we could use the existing slab or would need to pour a new concrete footing.

It turned out to be about 6½ inches thick, so we were able to keep it. We’d included a separate line item for a new footing in the estimate just in case. The nice thing about planning for that upfront is knowing what that work would cost before any nasty surprises.

The bones of the stacked stone kitchen are now taking shape. We’re about halfway through, the appliances we were waiting on have arrived, and the granite countertop is next.

Before we built this covered patio in Frisco, we had to move the existing irrigation out of the way. We capped the parts that were no longer needed and moved three irrigation controllers to the flower bed area, keeping them accessible once the patio was built.

That was one of the nice things about handling this entire backyard. We could plan the work from beginning to end and account for the existing sprinkler system before construction started.

The bathroom in this brick home extension in Frisco will have an outside entrance so people can come straight in from the pool. Getting that access right was the most important part of the project, with the bathroom just inside the exterior door.

That same addition will connect to an existing bedroom through what’s currently its closet, turning the bedroom into a mother-in-law suite. We’re making room for a shower, toilet, double vanity, and a closet across the back of the extension.

The nice thing about this layout is how the spaces connect. The bedroom gets its own bathroom and closet, plus a shortcut to the pool, while anyone outside has a direct way to reach the bathroom.
