Nothing compares to the feeling I get everytime we turn into Trego and cross the concrete bridge. The feeling of home, the quiet woods, the slowness... it all settles upon me and brings a peacefulness that I have never felt in any of my travels.
I was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Trego and it will forever be home to me.
In 1970, my grandparents bought acreage at the top of Trego, where my grandpa Sherman and my dad spent every summer haying, fishing, cleaning out the endless beaver dams and enjoying time with their neighbors.
By 1980, my parents had moved up here permanently. Mount St. Helen's had just erupted and they had to postpone their move by a few days as they were worried about stirring up the volcanic ash and destroying their motor.
Growing up in Trego's small community, I was taught the importance of family and neighbors, honesty and the value of hard work. I was also encouraged to make time to enjoy nature. I have wonderful memories of spending what to me felt like long summers 😏 We hayed, fished, hiked, hunted, explored and rode everywhere, and, of course, cleaned out the beaver dams.
In the winter, we snowmobiled, ice fished, snowshoed and I spent hours upon hours plowing us and our neighbors out 🙂
This year, my oldest son, who just turned nine, will do the same.
I hope my children never take for granted how blessed we are to be able to live here ❤️
