⚡ WHY DOES MY BREAKER KEEP TRIPPING?
If you're constantly resetting a circuit breaker, don't just keep flipping it back on and hoping the problem goes away. Your breaker is designed to interrupt power when it detects a condition that could create an electrical hazard.
So, what could be causing it?
🔌 Overloaded Circuit
Running too many appliances or high-power devices on the same circuit can draw more electricity than the circuit is designed to handle.
⚡ Short Circuit or Wiring Problem
Damaged wiring, faulty connections, or certain electrical faults can cause a breaker to trip repeatedly and may create a fire risk.
🔧 Faulty Appliance or Equipment
Sometimes the problem isn't your electrical panel at all. A malfunctioning appliance, tool, or other piece of equipment may be causing the breaker to trip.
🏠 Electrical System Capacity
If you're adding major appliances, an EV charger, HVAC equipment, or setting up a workshop, your existing circuits and electrical service may need to be evaluated to determine whether they can handle the additional demand.
🚨 When Should You Be Concerned?
Frequent breaker trips, a burning smell, buzzing or crackling sounds, scorch marks, or a breaker that feels unusually hot should never be ignored. If you notice these warning signs, stop using the affected circuit if you can do so safely. If there is smoke, fire, or an immediate danger, leave the area and call 911.
What should you do?
If a breaker continues to trip, have a qualified electrician identify the cause before resetting it repeatedly or replacing it with a larger breaker. A larger breaker is not a safe fix unless the wiring and entire circuit are properly rated for it.
