A moment of love, carved in marble.
This is Antonio Canova’s *Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss*, created between 1787 and 1793 and housed in the Louvre in Paris.
Inspired by the ancient story of Cupid and Psyche, the sculpture captures the lovers embracing as Psyche awakens from a deathlike sleep.
Look closely at the composition: Psyche’s raised arms frame their faces, while Cupid’s sweeping wings balance the reclining figures. Their lips remain just apart, holding the scene in a moment of anticipation.
The delicate feathers, soft-looking skin, and flowing drapery reveal Canova’s extraordinary skill at making solid marble appear almost alive.
